As the 25th anniversary of the One Piece anime approaches, the franchise has unveiled an exciting new anime project.
One Piece‘s anime premiered on October 20, 1999, roughly two years after the manga’s launch. Since then, Toei Animation Studio has been continually producing the original anime on a weekly basis.
Over the past 25 years, the narrative of One Piece has evolved significantly, with the anime now progressing through the Final Saga of the series, following the start of the Egghead Arc in January 2024. To celebrate this major milestone, a new anime project will be released.

According to a post on Twitter, “The special project, ‘ONE PIECE FAN LETTER,’ directed by Megumi Ishitani, is set to premiere on October 20th to honor the 25th anniversary of the One Piece anime.”
Megumi Ishitani, who directed Episode 1015—considered one of the most stunning episodes in the entire anime—will lead this new project. She is also known for directing openings 25 and 26. Alongside Ishitani, renowned animator Keisuke Mori will co-direct the short film. Mori, who joined during the Wano Arc, has contributed to four episodes, including the fan-favorite Episode 1015.
The upcoming short film will center around a young Nami fan girl and will adapt stories from the Straw Hat Stories novel. This novel includes tales from various Straw Hat characters, leaving speculation as to which narratives will be featured in the adaptation.
Additionally, a popular One Piece account noted, “Looks like ONE PIECE FAN LETTER might adapt multiple stories from the Straw Hat Stories Novel and not just Nami’s. I can see scenes from at least Luffy, Zoro, and Franky’s stories, so I wonder how many they’ll adapt and what the runtime will be?”
One fan commented, “It seems this project gives us a perspective from someone who idolizes the Straw Hats. Could be intriguing.”
Another user expressed, “Ishitani‘s 20-minute special??? I would’ve preferred a full episode of the anime, but I’ll take it. It might be the most fascinating project she’s worked on in a while, although I’m still unsure about the story details,”another fan shared.
The One Piece manga is advancing towards the Elbaf Arc, so stay tuned for release dates and spoilers for Chapter 1128.
