Overwatch 2 quietly updates Gotcha achievement

A keen Overwatch 2 fan noticed that Blizzard has modified a Cole Cassidy achievement, making it less challenging to obtain compared to its previous version.

The current Gotcha trophy challenge requires players to achieve a headshot on an enemy who has been affected by Cassidy’s Flashbang, during either Quick or Competitive Play. Previously, the challenge mandated two kills using the Flashbang ability.

Although the exact date of Blizzard’s implementation of this change is uncertain, the recent Season 12 patch notes addressed a bug where the same achievement was not being properly awarded.

After coming across Overwatch 2 trophies on their PlayStation 5, a player noticed a subtle change. They then shared their discovery on Reddit, sparking a divided response from fellow users.

Some players, including one who claimed to have “finally earned the achievement after a long time”just before the developers made changes, felt that the modification came too late. However, they were relieved to find out that they still retained the achievement, although it may now be easier for other players to obtain it in the future.

Some commenters expressed their wish for this trophy update to set a precedent for other Hero trophies, with one player stating, “If they’re making changes to achievements, they better make adjustments to Bap’s as well.”

Despite having a 10.9% unlock rate on PlayStation, Window of Opportunity has only been unlocked by 0.93% of players on the same platform, indicating that it may be a strong candidate for an update.

On the contrary, certain players were uncertain as to the necessity of this modification. One player responded, “Every average player should perform this action at least once during a game.”

One commenter also mentioned that whenever they played as the DPS Hero Cassidy on PlayStation, they were able to achieve this two to three times per game. They were puzzled as to why this was classified as “Very rare”.

Blizzard may discreetly make changes to achievements throughout the lifespan of Overwatch 2, so be vigilant when pursuing trophies. After all, Blizzard is known for regularly incorporating new elements into its games.
