With the arrival of Wuyang in Season 18 of Overwatch 2, Blizzard may have unintentionally hinted at the emergence of another hero within his trailer. Since the launch of OW2, Blizzard has maintained a consistent schedule of releasing a new hero every two seasons, keeping players engaged and eager for fresh content. Wuyang, a support character who harnesses the power of water, is next in line.

Players had the chance to experience Wuyang through a hero trial during Season 17, and at Gamescom, more details about his background were unveiled. A compelling twist in the animated trailer has players speculating that another character, Anran, Wuyang’s sister, may also be making her debut in the near future.

Community Speculation Surrounding Anran’s Arrival

The animated short delves into the sibling dynamic between Wuyang and Anran, showcasing their contrasting paths—Wuyang is a first-year student at Wuxing University’s Water College, whereas Anran has distinguished herself as a fourth-year student at Fire College. When Wuyang receives an invitation to join Overwatch, self-doubt emerges, leading to a face-off with his sister. The narrative climaxes with a surprising twist: Anran has also been invited to join the Overwatch team.

This revelation has sparked considerable excitement within the OW2 community, with many players vocalizing their belief that Anran will be the next hero introduced, with one fan humorously declaring, “Ok so we now know who hero 45 is lol, ”on Reddit.

Adding fuel to the speculation, Game Director Aaron Keller commented during Gamescom, “I feel like we’ll be seeing more of her in future stories.” This statement has certainly heightened anticipation among players.

It’s essential to note that several characters like Emre and Maximilian have appeared in various animated shorts or lore but have yet to be included in the game. However, Anran’s direct invitation to join Overwatch gives her a more plausible chance of being added than many past characters.
