Jetpack Cat has emerged as a prominent figure in Overwatch, transforming into a formidable presence that is currently facing widespread bans in competitive play.

As part of the significant Season 1 overhaul, the game welcomed five new heroes, including Jetpack Cat—a unique character known for her ability to levitate above the battlefield. This feline ally excels in healing teammates, damaging foes, and adeptly repositioning other heroes during combat.

As a result of her impressive versatility, Jetpack Cat has quickly gained popularity among players, particularly as a preferred Support character. Unfortunately, for those looking to rise through the competitive ranks with her, her frequent bans have created significant obstacles.

The Competitive Ban Phenomenon of Jetpack Cat

In Overwatch’s competitive mode, teams participate in a pre-match vote to ban one hero each, leading to the removal of that character from selection. Since her debut on February 10, Jetpack Cat has become the primary target for bans. Frustrated players have taken to social media to plead with teams to reconsider their votes against her.

One Reddit user expressed their discontent, stating, “If you’re one of the people voting to ban Jetpack Cat in every game of competitive, you’re a boring loser.” Another gamer lamented, “She wasn’t banned for 1 game.1 game out of 8 hours!”

Similar sentiments were echoed on X, where another player reported, “I played ranked for 10 hours straight, and she was banned every single game.” The trend has attracted attention even from Overwatch’s official accounts, with playful remarks such as, “NO BAN JETPACK CAT PLZ.”

Several factors contribute to Jetpack Cat’s ban status. Being a flying hero with a compact hitbox makes her a difficult target when she is airborne, increasing the frustration for opponents.

However, the primary concern arises from her Ultimate ability known as Catnapper. This powerful skill allows her to plunge to the ground and tether the nearest enemy, enabling players to remove rival heroes from the battlefield with ease, particularly effective against Tanks—heroes that typically boast substantial health and support.

Jetpack Cat’s potential to eliminate these formidable foes in mere moments has made her a top-tier concern among competitive players. Historically, she’s not the first hero to face such scrutiny; previous heroes like Sombra and Widowmaker also faced heavy banning when they were introduced, prompting players to adapt their strategies.

As the competitive scene evolves, it remains to be seen whether players will discover effective counters to Jetpack Cat or if she will be adjusted through future updates. The ongoing discourse surrounding her viability reflects the dynamic nature of Overwatch’s competitive environment.
