The film Newtopia centers around a soldier, Jae-yun (portrayed by Park Jung-min), and his girlfriend, Young-joo (portrayed by Jisoo), as they navigate the zombie-ridden streets of Seoul in a desperate attempt to reunite.
Park Jung-min, renowned for his exceptional portrayals in acclaimed films such as The Drug King and Start-Up, has been cast as Jae-yun in the upcoming movie. Jae-yun is a soldier who experiences apprehension about his future and is a late bloomer. Jisoo, who has garnered attention for her role in Snowdrop and is set to star in the upcoming film Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, will take on the role of Young-joo. Young-joo is Jae-yun’s girlfriend and a recent engineering graduate who joins a new company.
In Newtopia, Park Jung-min and Jisoo will play the roles of lovers who are determined to find each other in the midst of a perilous, zombie-infested Seoul.
The recently revealed images depict Jae-yun’s military service during the zombie outbreak, capturing the intense and stunned expression on his face that immediately captivates viewers. In addition, his subordinate, In-ho (portrayed by Lim Sung-jae), displays an even more shocked expression, conveying the dangerous circumstances they are facing. Meanwhile, Young-joo is seen in a calm state in an alley, adding to the intrigue surrounding the narrative.
Director Yoon Sung-hyun, known for his impactful debut film The Guard and his distinct style seen in Time to Hunt, is now exploring a new realm where the end of the world and love intertwine with his first series. The highly-anticipated collaboration between Yoon Sung-hyun and Park Jung-min, their third project together after The Guard and Time to Hunt, only heightens the excitement.
Han Jin-won, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter for Parasite, and Ji Ho-jin, renowned for the dynamic action in The Killers’ Shopping Mall, are collaborating on a compelling story of young love that must endure amidst a zombie apocalypse.
