The highly anticipated finale of Peacemaker Season 2 manages to resolve numerous plotlines while simultaneously planting seeds for future narratives. A particularly startling moment in Episode 8 draws a connection back to an awkward joke from the very first episode, revealing deeper layers to the story.
This season has followed Christopher Smith as he navigates alternate dimensions, only to realize that those he cherishes are still waiting for him back home. The climax unfolds in a rather somber tone, featuring a cliffhanger that seems poised to introduce elements for the upcoming Superman film, titled Man of Tomorrow, as well as influence the broader DC Universe.
As we delve into Episode 8, it’s important to note that SPOILERS await those who have yet to see it…
Unexpected Chaos: Imps in Episode 8

In their quest to explore alternate realities using the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, Harcourt and her team find themselves in what initially appears to be a whimsical world filled with candy. However, this illusion swiftly shatters as diminutive creatures — the Imps — emerge from their hiding spots and launch an assault.
The scenario quickly escalates into violence as the Imps overpower the agents with relentless punches and kicks. A particularly shocking scene unfolds when one Imp shatters a man’s helmet and grotesquely bites off his face. Simultaneously, another Imp humorously interacts with Langston Fleury’s helmet, prompting his incredulous response: “Are you f*cking kidding me?” This crudeness hints at a ludicrous story shared by Auggie Smith in the first episode, suggesting there might be more truth to it than initially perceived.
Auggie’s Disturbing Truth Revealed
During his initial arrival on Earth X, Chris shares a drink with his father, Auggie, and brother Keith, where he is treated to a bizarre account of his childhood. Auggie recounts a time when young Chris was pursued around their home by Imps. Keith then chimes in, revealing that months later, he found a decaying Imp hidden in his car, while Auggie claims that one morning he discovered something sticky in his cereal, insinuating that an Imp had defiled it.
Despite Keith dismissing this as “the famous Auggie embellishment, ” writer-director James Gunn provided clarity on the Peacemaker podcast, stating that the events in Episode 8 validate Auggie’s claims. Gunn stated: “This is a place that we actually heard in a throwaway conversation in Episode 1 of this season, where Auggie Smith is talking about the time that young Chris went to Imp world…” He further elaborated, explaining how the encounter with the Imps substantiates Auggie’s story, insinuating that the story might not have been so far-fetched after all.
