People feeling “nostalgic” after video shows what shopping at Walmart was like 20 years ago

A video that has gone viral on TikTok features footage of a Walmart store from 2005, evoking feelings of nostalgia as it spreads across the platform.

For many, shopping at Walmart in 2005 evokes a sense of nostalgia for various reasons, such as the abundance of checkout lanes, more affordable groceries, and the convenience of the store being open 24/7 for whenever you needed to make a quick visit.

A video shared on the social media platform TikTok by an account named Echoes of Nostalgia, known for posting content that reminisces on past memories, gained over 6.8 million views for its archived footage of Walmart.

As we observe customers filling their shopping carts and browsing through clothing items, a text overlay from 2005 notes the abundance of open checkout lanes at Walmart.

Upon observing the checkout counter, the date 11/25/05 is clearly visible as individuals have their items scanned.

As soon as the video was uploaded on the platform, individuals were eager to reflect on the nostalgic memories of the past.

Another person lamented, “It’s hard to believe that years later we would be scrolling through social media and reminiscing about how much simpler things were in the past.”

“I was shocked to discover that the cooking oil, which had previously been priced at 23.96, was now being sold for 48.97 at the Walmart where I work. It’s unbelievable how much the prices have risen over the years for the same oil and brand.”

“I was reminded of how poor our fashion sense used to be. American Eagle, Hollister, and Aeropostale were the only brands I wore,”another person joked.

There are numerous viral videos that have been causing waves of nostalgia among viewers. In February, a YouTuber shared a video of an abandoned McDonald’s restaurant from the 90s.
