Frustrated by the overwhelming presence of Shorts and incessant advertisements on YouTube, Felix ‘PewDiePie’ Kjellberg recently embarked on a mission to enhance the platform’s algorithm using his own artificial intelligence (AI) system.

In late 2025, this YouTube sensation developed a unique AI model that he trained by competing various chatbots against one another, ultimately achieving results that outperformed ChatGPT-4 and Deepseek.

As a result, PewDiePie claims to have successfully “fixed” YouTube’s algorithm, effectively curating a more tailored viewing experience that allows him to disconnect from the distractions of traditional social media.

PewDiePie Takes Control of YouTube’s Algorithm

On March 17, PewDiePie shared a video detailing his innovative approach, where he tasked his AI to create a browser extension specifically designed to eliminate Shorts from YouTube. Instead, the extension directs him straight to his Subscription feed when he visits the site.

This handy tool goes a step further by removing recommended videos and distracting information typically displayed in the sidebar during playback. To illustrate the dramatic contrast, he demonstrated both the customized YouTube experience via his extension and the default interface side by side.

Among the most startling realizations he encountered was the necessity to scroll past numerous oversized recommended video thumbnails to access the comments section on the standard YouTube site. In contrast, his extension places comments directly beneath the video for easier access.

PewDiePie vented his frustrations during the video, stating, “I hate how Shorts are everywhere. I can’t escape them! I search? Shorts. Homepage? Shorts. If I were running a website, I would want to empower my users. Google CEO, hello? Why can’t I disable them if I want to?”

Despite the innovative nature of his AI-driven extension, PewDiePie acknowledged that a similar tool called ‘Unhook’ already exists, allowing users to achieve comparable results.

This latest endeavor is part of a broader effort by PewDiePie to distance himself from social media. His recent actions include unfollowing all accounts on Instagram and creating separate profiles to manage his social media presence. Aware of the perils of mindless scrolling, he is determined to prevent himself from succumbing to the trap of ‘instant gratification.’

“I think being online messes with your head, ” he articulated.“I think it’s just a price we have all come to accept. We all know the internet is bad for us, but why are we here?”

Since stepping back from regular video uploads and welcoming his son, Bjorn, PewDiePie has taken on various new challenges. Most recently, he was invited to WiT Studio, where he had the unique opportunity to collaborate with the animators behind Attack on Titan, resulting in an exciting influencer and anime crossover.
