Platforms
Pokémon Legends Z-A will be available on both Nintendo Switch and the newly announced Switch 2, featuring a special edition for the latter. While specific differences between the two versions remain undisclosed, players can anticipate enhanced graphics and performance on the Switch 2, similar to other titles adapted for the new system.
New Pokémon
Currently, no new Pokémon species have been disclosed for Pokémon Legends Z-A; however, several new Mega Evolutions have been recently confirmed. The previous game in the series, Pokémon Legends Arceus, introduced a range of exciting new species, and players are hopeful that this trend will continue in the upcoming release.
Returning Pokémon will include familiar favorites such as the confirmed starter Pokémon, along with well-loved species like Jolteon, Flareon, Vaporeon, Sandile, Fletchling, Flaaffy, and more.
Confirmed Mega Evolutions
The latest insights into Pokémon Legends Z-A have confirmed the return of Mega Evolutions. Various trailers and the official Pokémon Legends Z-A website showcase an array of Mega Pokémon, along with some exciting new additions.
New Characters
The trailer for Pokémon Legends Z-A has introduced several key characters pivotal to the storyline. Depending on the player’s selection (male or female), they will befriend either Urbain or Taunie, who serves as their partner in adventure.
A character named AZ oversees a hotel that functions as the main base for players, alongside their Pokémon partner, Eternal Flower Floette. In the narrative, Lumiose City’s redevelopment is under the watch of the CEO of Quasartico Inc., Jett, and her assistant, Vinnie.
During this journey, players will encounter Team MZ, a faction dedicated to the protection of Lumiose City. Team members include Naveen, an aspiring fashion designer, and Lida, an ambitious dancer. The antagonistic force will be led by Corbeau, the enigmatic leader of the Rust Syndicate, a nefarious organization.
As players progress, they will also cross paths with Emma, the new lead detective at Looker’s agency, and Mable, who serves as the interim Director of Lumiose City’s Pokémon Research Lab.
New Mechanics
Wild Zones
This game will continue the core structure established in Legends Arceus while introducing Wild Zones reminiscent of features seen in Pokémon Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet. Trainers can explore these unique environments across Lumiose City.

In these Wild Zones, trainers will find various wild Pokémon residing in their natural habitats. While trainers can catch these creatures, they should remain vigilant, as some may retaliate when approached.
ZA Royale
As night descends, the atmosphere of Lumiose City shifts, signaling the commencement of the Z-A Royale tournament. This exciting game mode, reserved exclusively for nighttime, features trainer battles within dedicated zones.
Trainers venturing into these battle zones may encounter challenges if spotted by other trainers. However, those who prefer a stealthy approach might successfully initiate surprise attacks.

Utilizing super-effective moves at the right moment during battles can help trainers avoid incoming attacks. Moreover, mechanics allow players to Mega Evolve their Pokémon to gain that extra edge in combat.
Starting at Rank Z, players will ascend the ranks to ultimately reach Rank A, with top performers receiving an unspecified “wish”as a reward.
Rogue Mega Evolutions
A peculiar phenomenon has emerged in Lumiose City, enabling wild Pokémon without trainers to Mega Evolve uncontrollably.

This unpredictability results in Rogue Mega-Evolved Pokémon becoming formidable foes, requiring players to engage in battles using Mega Evolved Pokémon, akin to the Tera Raids from Scarlet & Violet. Fortunately, an ally from Team ZM will accompany players in these confrontations.
Mega Dimension DLC
During the most recent Nintendo Direct, the paid DLC for Pokémon Legends Z-A was announced, set to launch on February 28, 2026.
This expansion will deepen the main story, revealing mysterious distortions linked to a realm known as Hyperspace Lumiose. The journey will also feature the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa and introduce two exclusive Mega Evolutions for Raichu: Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y.
Additionally, players who pre-purchase the DLC for $29.99 will earn exclusive Holo-X and Holo-Y apparel items as bonuses.
