Bungie Addresses Player Concerns Regarding Marathon’s UI During Server Slam Test

Bungie has officially acknowledged player feedback regarding the user interface (UI) of Marathon during the ongoing Server Slam test, reaffirming that improvements to the UI will remain a top priority going forward.

As the testing phase of this extraction shooter nears completion, the developer took to X/Twitter to share updates about recent improvements and ongoing assessments. There has been an overwhelming response from players, particularly concerning the usability of the interface.

UI Refinements to Continue Beyond Launch

In a detailed update released on February 28, Bungie highlighted its commitment to enhancing the game’s UI. The team has been attentive to player suggestions and is |dedicated to making continuous improvements, even after the game’s initial launch.

If you get a chance, please head over to the official Discord and continue to let us know your thoughts. We still plan to iterate on the UI post-launch, but will continue to inform you about any timelines as they’re available.”

The studio has committed to continuous UI improvements post-launch.

Player feedback highlighted persistent issues with menu navigation and icon clarity during the Server Slam. Many users expressed frustration over the necessity of hovering over items to understand their effects, as this information is often not readily available in the tooltips.

“Why do I have to hover over every item to see what it is, and find out that this exact same-looking shield is 50% stronger?” a popular thread on Marathon’s subreddit stated.

In light of these challenges, a community member suggested an adjustment to the item display method, recommending that item values be shown instead of type. This approach can help players infer the strength of an item based on its numerical value, which has proven effective for differentiating items.

“I realized yesterday you can switch the icon from item type to value. Shields with more properties had a slightly higher value, ” noted the user.

In addition to addressing UI concerns, Bungie has implemented various fixes throughout the test phase, including resolving voice chat issues and a lag problem affecting mouse input on PC. The team has also increased the number of beginner teams in low-level zones to foster more engaging PvP encounters.

The Server Slam event concludes on March 2, leading up to the full release of Marathon for both consoles and PC, scheduled for March 5.
