As anticipation builds for the imminent release of The Night Agent Season 3 on Netflix, creator Shawn Ryan has shared exciting news regarding the future of the series, particularly the status of Season 4.
Initially launched in March 2023, The Night Agent has remarkably transformed from a low-key debut into one of Netflix’s most-watched shows, amassing over 98.2 million views within its first 91 days. This unexpected success speaks volumes about its compelling narrative and engaging characters.
Adapted from Matthew Quirk’s novel, the series features Gabriel Basso as the protagonist—a junior FBI agent assigned to monitor a phone for covert threats, who soon finds himself embroiled in a deadly conspiracy that reaches the highest echelons of power in the White House.
Current Status of The Night Agent Season 4

Shawn Ryan has confirmed that the writers’ room for Season 4 of The Night Agent has been active since 2025, where initial stories and scripts have been crafted. However, it’s important to note that Netflix has yet to officially greenlight the next season.
“While Season 4 hasn’t been formally picked up yet, we quietly initiated a writers’ room earlier in 2025, ”Ryan informed Deadline.“We have spent significant time developing the storyline and preparing scripts.”
Netflix’s approach to assessing the performance of Season 3 before moving forward with a fourth installment is understandable, especially considering that viewership for Season 2 dropped by approximately 50% compared to its predecessor.

Time is of the essence as the team navigates production decisions, particularly with a significant tax credit set to expire in November 2025, prompting a potential shift of production from New York to Los Angeles. This provides a six-month window to commence work, a timeline that could be well-utilized if Netflix grants the go-ahead.
Ryan appreciates Netflix’s careful consideration, stating, “They are thorough in ensuring that every creative aspect is meticulously aligned before committing to significant expenditures.
“Currently, we are in the story and script development phase. My prediction is that within the next few weeks, we will learn about the official green light for Season 4. If that occurs, we’ll be fully prepared with our scripts to ensure a seamless transition from Seasons 3 to 4, ” he added.
