Take-Two Interactive, the publisher behind the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), remains optimistic about the game’s scheduled release in May 2026, despite ongoing concerns about potential delays.

In early May 2025, Rockstar Games dealt a blow to fans by announcing the postponement of GTA 6 to May 26, 2026. The developers emphasized that they require “this extra time to deliver at the level of quality” that their dedicated fans “expect and deserve.” Yet, there is growing apprehension surrounding the possibility of an additional delay, fueled in part by Rockstar’s lack of communication regarding the game’s progress.

Take-Two’s Assurance on the GTA 6 Release Date

Concerns among fans escalated following comments from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who speculated that the game might be pushed back to October 2026. However, it’s important to note that his statement reflected personal opinion rather than an official announcement.

In light of these fears, many fans have begun to brace themselves for yet another postponement. Nevertheless, Take-Two has consistently reaffirmed that the game is still on track for its May 2026 debut. During the Virtual Annual Shareholder Meeting held on September 18, company representatives reiterated that GTA 6 is slated to launch on May 26, 2026.

CEO Strauss Zelnick stated, “As we bring our exciting lineup to market, including Grand Theft Auto VI in Fiscal 2027, we expect to achieve record levels of Net Bookings that will establish a new baseline for our business and set us on a path of enhanced profitability.” Zelnick also indicated that Rockstar would provide further details in the future.

As fans eagerly await the next installment of Grand Theft Auto, Take-Two has maintained a philosophy of allowing Rockstar Games to take the lead on communication. They emphasize that all significant announcements will originate from the game’s developers.

Recently, Rockstar has begun to break their silence by referring to the upcoming game explicitly as Grand Theft Auto 6 for the first time in a job listing, having previously referred to it only as Grand Theft Auto VI. This subtle change suggests a shift towards more definitive branding.

In a bold claim, Rockstar described GTA 6 as “the largest game launch in history, ” although they have since removed this phrase from their job listing, leaving fans pondering the true scale of the upcoming release.
