In a bold move to adapt to evolving viewer habits, Netflix is set to introduce a TikTok-style vertical video feed within its app this month. This initiative marks a significant step in the platform’s efforts to enhance short-form content discovery as streaming services increasingly take cues from the social media landscape.
This new feature, which has undergone testing since 2025, enables users to effortlessly scroll through bite-sized video clips from various shows, films, and podcasts. This streamlined approach aims to facilitate content discovery, allowing viewers to explore new titles without the obligation of watching entire episodes or films.
Trends in Vertical Video Content
Netflix’s latest endeavor aligns with trends observed across the industry. For instance, Disney+ has announced its plans to implement a similar vertical video feature by 2026, indicating a broader transition among streaming platforms towards mobile-oriented viewing experiences.
Leveraging AI to Enhance User Experience
In addition to the vertical feed, Netflix is also intensifying its use of artificial intelligence (AI) to refine content recommendations and improve production processes.

During the company’s recent earnings call, Co-CEO Gregory Peters highlighted Netflix’s commitment to personalization and recommendation systems. He stated, “We have been in personalization and recommendation for two decades, but we still see tremendous room to make it better by leveraging newer technologies.” The integration of advanced AI models is expected to not only enhance the recommendation process but also enable quicker iterations and adaptations for different types of content.
Co-CEO Ted Sarandos emphasized AI’s role in content creation, asserting that while AI will enhance the tools available to creators, the artistry of content production will remain primarily within the hands of talented individuals.“In general, we expect GenAI to make content better; better tools, better processes […] It takes a great artist to make great art, and AI won’t change that. But AI will give those artists better tools to bring those visions to life, ” he remarked.
