Players’ Dislike for Increased Weapon Mastery Requirements in XDefiant

XDefiant’s recent patch, released on June 18, has raised the necessary criteria for unlocking all of the weapon mastery skins, resulting in a displeased response from players.

Prior to the Y1S0.4 update, it was possible to acquire mastery camos (Bronze, Silver, and Gold skins) in XDefiant by reaching weapon levels 50, 75, and 100. However, with the new update, these milestones have been raised to levels 100, 150, and 200, resulting in a significant increase in the amount of time required to obtain them.

This modification from Ubisoft offsets the other addition in the update, which is the accelerated progression of weapon leveling.

A player on the XDefiant subreddit has brought to attention that Gold mastery now requires 600K XP instead of 350K, resulting in a significant 71.4% increase. This alteration has had an impact on players who were close to achieving a Gold skin, with one player expressing their disappointment as they were only a few levels away at level 94.

While most players are pleased with the recent update that made unlocking attachments easier, there is one player who believes that the developers went too far with the requirement for unlocking the Gold camo. They suggest that Gold should have been set at 150 and a new camo, such as Obsidian, should have been introduced at 200.

A player who commented on the X post expressed their belief that this change is strange and questioned Ubisoft about the lack of proportional increases. They stated, “Apart from time spent playing, there is no real difficulty. It feels more like a participation reward than a measure of mastery. I suppose that’s okay, but I personally do not enjoy grinding for this mastery system.”

Another person added, “It would be great if they could include additional camos that we can unlock as we progress towards bronze, silver, and gold.”

Another person commented, “It seems as though the grind is being artificially extended because there is a limited selection of parts, making it difficult to feel a sense of progress.”

Mark Rubin, the Executive Producer of XDefiant, shared an explanation soon after the release of the Y1S0.4 patch. He acknowledged that while these changes may cause dissatisfaction for some players, the team will carefully review their decisions in the upcoming days.

He mentioned that the entire system is being revamped to increase its appeal for everyone. Although it may take a few seasons before we witness the changes, we are currently seeking feedback to enhance our future implementation.

This suggests that if a large portion of players find it difficult to obtain mastery skins, the requirements may be adjusted in the future. However, it remains to be seen if and how this will occur.
