Pokémon Go: A free special box to compensate for the Totemic Boreas bug

Pokémon Go: A free special box to compensate for the Totemic Boreas bug

Niantic introduced a free bundle as compensation for players who participated in a Totemic Boreas Raid when its shiny version was not available.

From January 10, 2024 to January 17, 2024, players of Pokémon Go had the opportunity to capture Totemic Boreas for the first time. This Flying-type Pokémon, thanks to its new form and its newly introduced signature attack, Winter Typhoon, is powerful.

However, its arrival had fans excited to capture it, but an oversight on Niantic’s part proved problematic. The Cyclone Pokémon had been accidentally locked to shiny, which meant that it was impossible to encounter a shiny variant in raids.

Shortly after this discovery, Niantic promised trainers that they would be compensated for the error “in the coming days” , this promise having now been kept.

Posting on the Niantic Support X Twitter account, the Pokémon Go developer announced: “Thank you for your patience, Trainers. We’ve added a bundle to the store for anyone who did a Totemic Boreas Raid during the affected period. The bundle will be available until February 28, 2025.”

The compensation comes in the form of a Free Box containing x3 Premium Battle Passes and x1 Remote Raid Pass. These same rewards were given to all players, regardless of the number of Totemic Boreas Raids attempted.

Some confusion was caused by the wording of the tweet. Niantic claims the compensation was for players who did a “Totemic Boreas Raid,” but it appears this was a miscommunication.

The Totemic Boreas Raid was only active on January 17, 2024, and there have been no reports of problems encountering shiny variants. However, there have been issues with the Totemic Boreas Raid which was active last week.
