Pokemon Go Gym challenger baffled by Gray Gym “strategy”

A Pokemon Go player was left questioning if they had missed a new “strategy”involving Gray Gyms after an unusual experience with one of the Gyms.

After reading about it on Reddit, where users were discussing a strategy involving leaving blank gyms, it was observed that members of Team Mystic and Valor had been battling for control of a nearby gym. However, they mentioned that a new player suddenly appeared three weeks ago with a completely different approach.

The mysterious person was a member of Team Instinct and, instead of claiming the Gym for their own team, evicted any current inhabitants and chose to keep it unclaimed for a prolonged period of time.

The author of the thread stated, “As soon as someone places a ‘mon there, they are immediately defeated. No one is able to hold the Gym for longer than 10 minutes.”

As the author considered the reasons behind why someone would adopt such a tactic and questioned whether it was worth reporting, they sought guidance from other Trainers.

In addition to the common suspicions of spoofing or cheating, numerous responses suggested that the unknown member of Instinct may be purposefully leaving the Gym empty as an act of spite.

“According to one user, it is possible that someone attempted to maintain control of that Gym, but was consistently defeated before earning maximum coins. As a result, they may be seeking revenge or throwing a tantrum in a more prolonged manner.”

“Another person chimed in, stating that players often intentionally defeat their opponents’ creatures and refrain from placing their own creatures in the game. They also noted that it takes about 30 minutes for a player to be able to place a creature unless a teammate of the same color is present.”

Several others also reported similar experiences, stating, “There is a Gym located a few streets away from me where this continues to occur! I am unsure who is responsible for leaving it unoccupied, but since I can see the Gym from my house, I am always aware of it.”

Despite its unsportsmanlike nature, choosing not to occupy a Gym after defeating its occupants is not a violation of Pokemon Go’s rules, unless cheating is involved.

Do you frequently find yourself worrying about which ‘mon to exclude from a captured Gym? There are numerous alternatives aside from the one with the highest Combat Power.
