Major Update for Pokémon Go: Level Cap Raised and Inventory Overflow
On October 15, Pokémon Go unveiled a significant update that has transformed gameplay for trainers. The level cap has been expanded from 50 to an impressive 80, accompanied by a comprehensive adjustment of XP requirements. This exciting enhancement provides players with rewards for each level achieved during the rollout.
As part of this update, trainers were pleasantly surprised to receive a plethora of items instantaneously, including Poké Balls, potions, and storage upgrades associated with their level milestones. However, the sudden influx of rewards led to the unintended consequence of many players’ item bags reaching capacity, leaving them struggling to manage their inventory.
Impact on Gameplay: Trainers Locked Out of PokéStops
The overflowing inventories have hindered players from spinning PokéStops and collecting items from gifts, forcing them to manually free up space. Some players reported an astonishing accumulation of over a thousand items in a single update, making it difficult to manage their inventory effectively, despite new bag expansion opportunities.
Twitter user Livie shared her experience, stating, “POV: you opened the newly updated Pokémon Go and received all of the previous level reward items at once.” A screenshot of her bag displayed a staggering 2, 891 items, far exceeding its capacity of 1, 700.

Another user, Mitchell Preston, lamented, “Thanks, Pokémon Go. Love the trainer level update, causing my storage to be this now. Looks like I’m not spinning a PokéStop until 2026.” His screenshot showed 3, 187 items in a bag designed for only 2, 350.

Although all affected players can alleviate their inventory issues by deleting items, many express reluctance due to the perceived value of the rewards. In addition to the inventory challenges, the update also discontinued Level-Up Research tasks for levels 41 through 50, replacing them with new objectives for levels 71 to 80.
Trainers can now also look forward to expanded Pokémon storage, gifts, and postcards, as well as new avatar items. For players at level 15 and above, the update introduces the “Daily Adventure Egg, ” which can be hatched once per day for 10, 000 XP, adding an exciting new dimension to daily gameplay.
