In response to overwhelming feedback from its community, the Pokémon Center has implemented a new initiative aimed at reducing the rampant issue of scalpers within the Pokémon merchandise market.
For years, scalpers have posed a significant challenge to fans, exacerbating frustration levels as they monopolize shelf space and deplete stock before genuine collectors have a chance to purchase items. The situation has sometimes escalated to the point of physical confrontations, illustrating the intensity of demand among fans.
Introducing “Make-to-Order” Sales at Pokémon Center

The Pokémon Center in Japan recently launched its PIKACHU DINER merchandise line on July 5, 2025, which includes an array of adorably designed products featuring the beloved chubby Pikachu in a nostalgic diner setting. Among the standout items is a plush Pikachu holding a heart, showcasing the line’s charming and retro aesthetic.
This new merchandise line quickly gained popularity among fans, thanks to the adorable design of chubby Pikachu. However, the limited availability of these items has made it a challenge for fans to acquire them. Early reports indicate that to secure purchases on launch day, enthusiasts had to enter a lottery just for the chance to visit the Pokémon Center.
Such measures have not deterred scalpers, who managed to infiltrate the sales process and resell items at inflated prices on third-party marketplace platforms. As a result, the community expressed its discontent, urging the Pokémon Company to consider implementing make-to-order options to ensure equitable access for true fans.
Recognizing these concerns, the Pokémon Company has announced an exciting new policy: they will offer make-to-order options for the PIKACHU DINER plushies and mascots once stocks run dry. This strategy is designed to minimize the impact of scalpers and provide an easier buying experience for fans. Furthermore, while other items within the merchandise line are set to be restocked in the future, a make-to-order sale for these products is not currently planned.
This initiative represents a significant step towards protecting the interests of loyal Pokémon fans. By allowing for make-to-order sales, the Pokémon Center aims to alleviate pressure from scalpers and provide dedicated collectors with a fair opportunity to purchase their favorite items without inflated pricing.
