Police Investigation Initiated After Woman Discovers Rug Buried in Garden by Viral Video

A trending TikTok video by creator Katie Sentry has sparked a police inquiry after she unearthed a rug buried in her backyard.

On September 30, 2024, Sentry posted a TikTok expressing her suspicions that her home might be haunted after experiencing mysterious damage to her laptop while it was not in use.

In the clip, Katie detailed how she was constructing a fence in her backyard when she stumbled upon a strange rug buried underground during her digging.

“Who the f**k, and why the f**k is there a rolled-up carpet underground?” she exclaimed.

Viewers began to speculate whether a dead body could be inside the rug, leading Katie to involve the police for further investigation through subsequent videos she shared.

Two police officers were dispatched to assess the situation, and Katie mentioned that the police would not allocate resources to investigate something that wasn’t confirmed, leaving it up to her to excavate the remainder of the rug if she wished.

Replying to @ɱεℓ ɓ that’s that. At first, I really thought this was about to get insane, but after he called his boss, they decided they could not put resources into something unknown. So there we have it—the story ends, and whatever is in that rug will stay there. Now, back to our regular scheduled programming.🙃 #hauntedtiktok#hauntedhouse#rug

After days of digging, the TikToker appealed for assistance with access to a cadaver dog or a radar system to examine what lay buried below.

On October 3, 2024, Katie informed her followers that the homicide division contacted her, stating that detectives and cadaver dogs would be dispatched to her residence for investigation.

When they arrived, the cadaver dogs signaled towards the hole, indicating the presence of a dead body’s scent in the vicinity of the buried rug.

This is not what I thought was going to happen. Both dogs sat at the hole. Very quickly, the police were here to seal off the house, and news stations were waiting. This is insane. I will get a better video together soon.

On October 4, detectives arrived at her house with an excavator and other equipment to excavate the viral buried rug.

The videos gained massive popularity on social media, amassing millions of views and tens of thousands of comments across nearly all platforms.

Sentry’s videos have received between three to twelve million views each, with one of her latest clips racking up nearly four million views in just an hour after being posted.

However, shortly after the digging concluded, Sentry updated her audience that no body was found within the hole.

“This has been the most absurd, insane experience of my life. What did they find? No, they didn’t find a body. They found a mother-effing rug with some rubber,”she stated. “The questions remain: why did the dogs react, and who broke my laptop? I’m so confused. There’s no body. Honestly, let’s praise the lord there’s no body.”

While the mystery behind the contents of the rug has been resolved, viewers will have to await Katie’s next video or story that could go viral on social media.

This incident follows closely behind another viral TikTok concerning an “infuriated” Airbnb guest who expressed her concerns about refund issues for a mountain vacation disrupted by Hurricane Helene.
