X (previously known as Twitter) automatically adds user data to its AI training pool for Grok, but there is a way to prevent this. X allows you to opt out of AI training, however, the option is not easily accessible and can be found in the settings.
Grok is a massive language model that shares similarities with ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Its major selling point is its ability to provide humorous responses to questions, although they may be less accurate.
Access to Grok is restricted to individuals with an X subscription, however, by default it utilizes the data of all users for training purposes.
In July, a few X users noticed this. The positive update is that you have the option to disable data usage for AI training and erase your chat history with the AI bot.
How to switch off X’s AI training using your data
The option to deactivate the data collection feature of Grok is not accessible through the X mobile app. To follow the instructions, a desktop computer is required.
- Access the Settings page on X on your computer.
- Click on the Privacy and Safety button.
- Select Grok.
- Check the box that says Do not allow your posts, interactions, inputs, and results with Grok to be used for training and fine-tuning.
- Select Delete Conversation History to remove all of your past conversations with the AI model.
What Data is Used for Grok AI Training?
According to a support page, if the setting is enabled, X is able to use your X posts, as well as your user interactions, inputs, and results with Grok, for training and fine-tuning purposes.
“As a result, your interactions, inputs, and results while using Grok may be utilized to improve and train the system’s performance.”
The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has taken notice of X’s AI training and has reached out to the company after being informed by TechCrunch. The DPC expressed surprise at the platform’s decision and has contacted X for further information, to which they are currently awaiting a response.
