PS5 gets big Discord upgrade – but you won’t be able to use it yet

Sony has officially announced that a forthcoming update for PlayStation 5 will enable users to directly join Discord voice chats on the console.

On June 13, 2024, a video was posted by PlayStation confirming the news and stating that the update will gradually be released within the next few weeks. Currently, there is no announcement for the PlayStation 4.

The update will initially begin in Japan, followed by other Asian regions, and eventually reach the rest of the world. It will first roll out in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, and finally in the Americas.

This alternative method of connecting to Discord voice chats eliminates the need for using the smartphone app to initiate the connection.

On PlayStation 5, the process for connecting to any voice channel on a server you’re in is similar to that on PCs. This feature also allows for direct voice calls on Discord.

Joining Discord Voice Chat on PS5

To directly join a Discord voice chat on your PS5, follow these steps:

1. Go to the PS5 Control Center.
2. Select the Discord tab located in Game Base.
3. Select the Discord server or direct message group that you would like to join.
4. Here, you can choose the voice channel you wish to connect to.

Additionally, you will have the ability to view the other individuals currently in the voice channel during that moment. In the event that your friend contacts you through Discord, a notification will also appear on your PS5.
