PS5 Pro Design Revealed by Known Leaker in Illustration

Renowned technology insider billbil-kun has offered the initial glimpse of the all-new PS5 Pro, and it seems to be unfavorable news for those who prefer physical gaming.

Despite the lack of official statements from Sony, speculation and information about the PlayStation 5 Pro have been spreading for months.

Recent developments suggest that the anticipation for the PS5 Pro is increasing, with the first-ever glimpse of the console being unveiled. According to reputable tech leaker, billbil-kun, who shared the information with Dealabs Magazine, the console’s appearance is said to closely resemble that of the PS5 Slim.

In order to comply with copyright regulations, an official photo of the console was not displayed. Instead, a rough sketch was presented, depicting what billbil-kun observed when viewing a visual of the final packaging of the actual product.

The source claims that the upcoming PS5 Pro, which will reportedly retain its name, has many similarities with the current PS5 Slim model. Both consoles will have a white exterior design, and the PS5 Pro will also come with a white DualSense controller like the Slim version.

The source further clarified that the front of the upgraded console will still feature two USB-C ports and a power button.

Upon closer inspection, the most notable feature of the Pro version is the addition of three black stripes. These lines can be seen in the sketch, positioned on both sides of the console. In contrast, the PS5 Slim only has a single stripe on each of its covers.

Fortunately, the Slim model still allows for replaceable covers, so we can expect that Sony will also offer alternate covers for the Pro model.

The individual who leaked the information also mentions that the PS5 Pro seems to be “slightly thicker”in comparison to the PS5 Slim. However, without specific measurements, it is impossible to confirm this claim.

As an upgraded ‘Pro’ version, it is rumored to have improved specs such as a 576 GB/s (18GT/s) system memory, 2TB of storage, and a more powerful GPU, which may explain its larger form factor.

Rumors of a Digital-Only PS5 Pro

The person who leaked the information also mentioned that the visual they received does not seem to feature a disc drive.

The initial release of the PS5 included both disc and digital-only versions, while the Slim model required a separate disc drive.

Even though it may not appeal to avid physical gamers, the absence of a disc drive could potentially be a strategic decision to save space and compete with Microsoft’s all-digital Xbox Series X refresh.

There is a high possibility that the visual we saw was only intended for the digital version of PS5 Pro. Alternatively, Sony may be considering promoting the Pro alongside the disc tray option, similar to the Slim model. Nevertheless, we cannot be certain until an official announcement is made.

Just like with any leaks, it’s best to take these details with a healthy dose of skepticism, especially since there has been no confirmation from Sony executives about the existence of the console.

Despite this, billbil-kun has a hunch that the PS5 Pro will be revealed in the near future and anticipates that an official announcement will come sometime in early September 2024.
