Bethesda’s highly anticipated game, Starfield, has made headlines as the studio’s most successful launch to date, captivating Xbox and PC gamers alike. However, a pressing question arises: will PlayStation 5 users be able to experience this expansive universe? Here, we delve into the prospects of a PS5 version becoming available.

Historically, Bethesda games have launched on various platforms, drawing in millions of players across different hardware. However, since being acquired by Microsoft, the release strategy has shifted, leading to multiple titles being exclusive to Xbox for certain periods. This was notably the case with the Starfield launch in 2023, where it was available solely on Microsoft’s consoles. But could that exclusivity be changing soon?

With numerous rumors swirling regarding a potential shift in Microsoft’s approach, discussions about Starfield and its availability on Sony’s console have gained traction. Here’s what we know so far about a possible PS5 release.

Is Starfield Coming to PS5?

While there has been no official announcement confirming a PS5 release for Starfield, reports suggest that it is indeed in the pipeline for the near future.

Information has emerged from XboxEra, citing anonymous sources within Xbox. They assert that a PS5 launch is planned for Starfield and could be arriving sooner than many expect.

In a recent interview, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, addressed these speculations during a conversation with Destin Legarie. When asked if Starfield would remain exclusive, Spencer replied with uncertainty: “No.” He elaborated that he sees no reason to completely restrict any game from reaching potential players across platforms, emphasizing Microsoft’s openness to making games available to broader audiences.

Although Spencer did not provide a specific timeline for Starfield coming to other systems like the PS5 or even the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, his comments indicate that it may only be a matter of time before Microsoft’s exclusivity fades for this title.

Moreover, with the launch of the Shattered Space expansion on September 30, 2024, there is potential for future porting efforts to include this DLC along with various enhancements players have enjoyed since the game’s debut.

However, it’s important to note that these discussions are still in their infancy, and a definitive release date for PS5 remains unclear. Nevertheless, with all the ongoing dialogue, it seems plausible that we may not have to wait too long. We will continue to provide updates as more concrete information becomes available regarding Starfield‘s PS5 launch.
