YouTube has recently come under fire for reportedly blocking videos for users who do not have any adblockers installed in their browsers, leaving many viewers confused and seeking clarification regarding this issue.
Over the past year, the platform has tightened its restrictions on adblockers, going so far as to slow down video playback and even completely blocking access to its video player for those attempting to avoid advertisements. This crackdown on adblocking began in the summer of 2024, and it ignited a wave of frustration among users who were confronted with prompts urging them to disable their adblockers or consider subscribing to YouTube Premium.
However, a growing number of users report being unable to watch videos even when they are not using any adblockers at all. This situation has raised eyebrows and sparked numerous discussions across social media.

There are claims that YouTube’s systems are erroneously identifying users as having adblockers installed, which is resulting in unwanted video playback restrictions.
Viewer Complaints: Access Issues Without Adblockers
A notable case was shared on Reddit on July 16, where a user showcased their experience on YouTube, featuring the same error message displayed to users with adblockers: “It looks like you may be using an adblocker. Video playback is blocked unless YouTube is allowlisted or the adblocker is disabled.”
The Reddit user expressed disbelief, stating, “Is YouTube daft?” maintaining that they do not use adblockers. They further described their frustration: “It just tells me how to disable adblockers and to refresh, ” but despite following these instructions, the issue persisted.

Additional comments from readers highlighted similar frustrations, with one user mentioning they encountered this issue while using Google Chrome, despite having no adblockers installed.“I also removed all adblockers and used Google’s own browser, Chrome, and YouTube is still complaining, ” they noted.
Another user confirmed the glitch, stating, “This error will pop up even if you don’t use an adblock, ” while others noted that they had heard numerous complaints about the same problem. One user even recounted their experience of subscribing to YouTube Premium only to face restrictions due to a mistakenly detected adblocker, expressing disbelief at the platform’s actions against paying members.
This incident exemplifies the growing discontent among users, who recently voiced their opinions about the need for a separate app for YouTube Shorts, as they feel it is not ideally suited to be integrated with the main site.
