During a recent interview, director Jang Young-joo discussed the production and behind-the-scenes stories of tvN’s “Queen of Tears”after its conclusion. He also praised the actors who worked alongside him to complete the project.
The director expressed his sentiments about completing the journey with “Queen of Tears”, stating that the writer’s captivating and significant storyline, along with the exceptional acting from the actors, made the filming process enjoyable and strengthened their bond. He believes that the collaboration between the writer, director, and actors was remarkable, and he gained even more respect for them after working on this project. The director also extended his sincere gratitude to the viewers who showed love for the drama.
Upon being asked about his awareness of the drama’s popularity, director Jang responded by stating that he had heard positive feedback from those around him. He expressed his initial attraction to the project, “Queen of Tears,”due to its unique portrayal of a modern family. Furthermore, he mentioned his excitement to co-direct the drama with trusted colleague, director Kim Hee-won, and collaborate with a talented cast. Jang also admitted that he did not anticipate the success the drama would achieve, but was determined to create a production he could be proud of.
According to the director, his main focus in this drama was to accurately portray the emotions of a married couple in different stages. He praised actors Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, stating that his admiration and appreciation for them grew even more while working on this project. He gave them both a perfect score for their acting performances, and also commended their great personalities and ability to get along with everyone on set. The director was particularly impressed by the chemistry between Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, as they were able to convincingly portray a real couple despite their differences. He was deeply moved by their support for each other during difficult times and their attentive listening to one another.
Director Jang Young-woo expressed his desire for viewers to experience the heartfelt messages portrayed in “Queen of Tears” and for the drama to be a cherished memory for them.
