Undoubtedly, Suzaku Kururugi from Code Geass is widely despised in the anime community. His behavior and conflicting beliefs throughout the show have earned him the titles of a ‘self-righteous hypocrite’ and a ‘traitor’ to his own kind.

Despite betraying his homeland and father, Suzaku’s goal remained the same – to bring about change for the Japanese people. However, his plan to work within the system of the Holy Britannian Empire was ultimately futile and irrational, making it the worst approach he could have taken to better his country.

Even more troubling, his subsequent actions resulted in the deaths of millions of Japanese, essentially rendering his initial motivation meaningless. Furthermore, his constant interference with Lelouch’s rebellion against Britannia greatly irked fans.
