After making waves five years ago, the sequel to the thrilling horror film is officially on the way! Get ready for Ready or Not 2, a project that promises excitement for fans while raising an intriguing question.
The highly anticipated follow-up to the gory horror flick has been greenlit by Searchlight Pictures, with the talented Samara Weaving donning her wedding dress once more.
On October 12, the announcement confirmed that Weaving would reprise her role as Grace, the unfortunate bride ensnared in the ultimate game of hide and seek during her wedding night. The original film, released in 2019, was a commercial success with a box office return of $57.6 million against its modest $6 million production budget, earning acclaim for its unique blend of horror and dark humor.
Speculation about a sequel began as early as March 2024, so this official confirmation is likely to be a welcome relief for fans who enjoyed the film’s macabre wit.
The creative team behind the original, known as Radio Silence—comprised of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella—will return to direct the sequel.
Returning writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy are also back onboard.
While specifics regarding the plot and additional cast members remain under wraps, it’s likely that Weaving will be the sole returning actor, given that the fates of other prominent characters—played by Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell—ended quite violently in the first film.
This development raises an essential question: what direction will the sequel take? Responses from fans indicate a mix of curiosity and excitement, even without an established storyline to follow.
As one Twitter user remarked: “I can’t fathom how a sequel to this film will unfold. Regardless, I will definitely be watching.”
Another fan expressed: “I’m cautiously optimistic because this didn’t really need a sequel.”
A third fan pondered: “Considering the entire family perished, how will this work?”
No matter the storyline of the sequel, it’s apparent that the creative minds behind the original have been gearing up for a follow-up for some time.
In a statement to ComicBook.com last September, Weaving indicated her enthusiasm, saying: “I’m fully committed. I think everyone is on board. I don’t know if we’ve had our blood handshake, but we’re pretty much there. We’ve done the spit handshake, but haven’t yet had the blood pact.”
