Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) is renowned for its intricate mysteries, captivating players with secrets waiting to be uncovered. While many of these enigmas have been explored over the years, a particularly old mystery resurfaced recently, reigniting intrigue among the community.

In late 2025, RDR2 aficionados stumbled upon new clues for the first time since the game’s original release in 2018, generating fresh waves of speculation and investigation.

Enthusiasts found a sequence of spider webs leading to a hidden message on a telephone pole, which could be revealed by taking a shot at it. This elusive message guided players to yet another pole, where another secret awaited—this time involving a guitar placement and symbols atop nearby buildings.

The fervor surrounding this mystery has drawn commentary from a former Rockstar Games developer, who expressed astonishment at its discovery. They remarked, “I remember hearing about this and thinking it would never be uncovered.”

In a revealing YouTube video, Strange Man, a creator familiar with RDR2’s intricacies, revealed the connection between the glowing red pentagram found underneath a Butcher Creek house and the Spider Dream mystery.

According to Strange Man’s insights, this pentagram is only visible between 4 AM and 5 AM and is constructed from mesh cables similar to those of the spider webs. The pentagram serves a larger purpose, acting as a guide for players to discover five outhouses, each marked internally with a tally mark.

One of these outhouses, specifically the fourth, contains significant additional markings, including the letters “LJ”and “SM, ”along with an icon of Fort Brennand. Notably, the outhouse at Fort Brennand itself features six tally marks, while a nearby tower displays seven more carvings. Inside that tower, players can find three extra symbols that lead them to a telephone pole, an industrial site, and potentially a pool of oil.

From this point, the symbols found at Fort Brennand direct players to the telephone pole featuring the spider carving, thus continuing the unfolding mystery.

While the trail has since cooled, the community remains eager to decipher the remaining clues. Some players have speculated that this intricate map could tie back to the enigmatic Mt. Chiliad mystery from Grand Theft Auto 5.

Another avenue of speculation relates to exotic flora known as Birds of Paradise, although it is too preliminary to assess any potential connections. As anticipation builds for the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19, 2026, the community races against the clock to decipher what these discoveries might signify.

Given the lack of discovery of rewards, such as weapons or cosmetics within the game files, the investigative efforts of RDR2 detectives continue unabated as they scour every inch of the map for hidden clues and unravel this complex puzzle.

This reinforces the idea that the pentagram in Butcher Creek extends beyond an eerie Easter egg to a far more elaborate narrative, hinting at a substantial interconnected mystery within the game.
