Valve has officially announced the price and launch date for its highly anticipated Steam Controller, marking a significant step in its initiative to enhance PC gaming experiences in the living room.

This innovative controller is engineered specifically for the Steam ecosystem. It aims to provide gamers with a level of customization and precision that traditional gamepads may lack.

First unveiled in November 2025 alongside the Steam Machine and the Steam Frame VR headset, the excitement among fans has been palpable, as they eagerly awaited the release of Valve’s new lineup of products.

Launch Details: Price and Features of the Steam Controller

As confirmed by Valve, the Steam Controller will be available starting Monday, May 4, at 10 AM PT, with a retail price set at $99.

The Steam Controller notably features dual trackpads replacing the usual analog sticks. This innovation is designed to emulate mouse inputs for a more accurate experience in PC gaming, particularly in genres like fast-paced shooters traditionally dominated by keyboard and mouse setups.

Furthermore, the controller incorporates advanced magnetic thumbsticks utilizing TMR technology, which enhances responsiveness and durability over time. With support for capacitive touch, users can enjoy both motion-based input and standard control options.

Central to the user experience is the haptic feedback system, featuring high-fidelity rumble motors that deliver intricate feedback patterns, enriching the overall gameplay experience.

Another significant addition is the grip-enabled gyro controls, enabling gamers to engage in motion aiming simply by holding the controller. This feature can easily be toggled on or off and customized like other control inputs.

To enhance usability, the controller includes four rear grip buttons, allowing players to access additional functions without needing to shift their thumbs from the trackpads or sticks.

A dedicated Steam button serves dual functions: it acts as a power switch while also providing quick access to essential platform features such as the library, store, settings, and game controls. Additionally, there is a quick access menu that features notifications, friends lists, and Steam Chat.

The Steam Controller boasts compatibility with a wide range of devices that run Steam or the Steam Link app, including Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs, as well as smartphones and tablets. It will also work seamlessly with the Steam Deck, whether docked or in handheld mode, ensuring consistent input options across various platforms. Notably, it is designed to pair effortlessly with Steam Machine hardware and has the capability to wake the system remotely.
