Despite her appearance in THIS ‘fit, five Korean media reporters selected BLACKPINK Jennie as having the “worst”fashion in an article.
On July 7, YTN, a Korean media outlet, published its weekly “Fashion Ranking”which showcases the “Best,””So-So,”and “Worst”outfits chosen by entertainment reporters.
During the first week of the month, the media expressed regret that the rankings were dominated by what they deemed as the “worst”fashion, with BLACKPINK Jennie being the first name mentioned.
On July 3, Jennie made a special appearance at Chanel’s Coco Crush launch event and posed for a mini photo-op before going inside the pop-up store.
During that time, the unconventional outfit worn by the luxury brand’s global ambassador received much acclaim. She paired a black bra top with a sheer mini dress, and added mesh stockings and a black micro-bag from Chanel to complete the look.
Although Jennie already catches attention with her stylish outfit, she further stands out with the addition of the Premieré watch necklace. This unique accessory is both functional as a watch and fashionable as a long necklace. Additionally, Jennie complements her overall look by styling her hair in long braids and sporting nose piercings.
Despite the striking appearance, YTN reporters were not particularly impressed, as reported by Reporter Gong Yeong Ju who stated:
“This black see-through look is too much.”
Kim Sung Hyun, a reporter, concurred with Gong’s perspective and elaborated:
“In fashion, there is something that you call TPO. It means that you should wear clothes that fit the time, place, and occasion.
Of course, there are instances where fashion can break this rigid TPO, but it seems to be not the case for Jennie’s latest outfit.
Everything from the hairstyle to the excessive sheer style and accessories is ‘too much.”
Additionally, journalists Kang Nae Ri, Kwang Hyu Soo, and Choi Boran were all in consensus that, while Jennie effortlessly pulled off the unorthodox look due to her status as a global fashion icon in BLACKPINK, it still fell short in impressing them.
“It is definitely a distracting look. It would have been better if she had just given up at least one thing, whether it be the logo-printed stockings or the long braided hairstyle.”(Kang)
“The combination of the black see-through look that reveals her shoulder line and the stockings is crossing the line. It seems like Dyanne from ‘The Idol’ came out of the drama. I wish she would go back in.”(Kwak)
“The bold sheer one-piece dress with mesh stockings gives a somewhat distracting feel. It is an outfit that aims to be daring, but it is burdensome to see it at an official event.”(Choi)
