Little Nightmares 3 expands the beloved franchise by introducing two new protagonists who navigate the mysterious realm known as Nowhere in search of an escape. This latest installment is crafted by Supermassive Games, bringing new life to the series. While the PC version generally performs well, it has some shortcomings, especially for users with ultrawide monitors.
Fortunately, ultrawide users swiftly discovered that a patch created by modder Lyall for the previous game effectively addresses these issues in Little Nightmares 3. Below is a guide on how to implement this patch.
Addressing Ultrawide Display Issues in Little Nightmares 3
Lyall’s renowned ultrawide patch, originally designed for Little Nightmares 2 Enhanced Edition, is also compatible due to both games being built on Unreal Engine 4. This patch removes the intrusive black bars, offering a fully immersive ultrawide gaming experience.
To install the patch, follow these steps:
- Ensure that Little Nightmares 3 is not currently running.
- Visit the following Codeberg link to download the latest patch file. Click on SUWSF zip under the “Installation” section.
- Locate your Little Nightmares 3 installation folder and extract the downloaded zip file.
SMG031MP/Binaries/Win64
This solution is applicable, at least for the Steam version. After extraction, relaunch the game for it to function in the correct ultrawide format. Remember to place the patch in the Win64 folder, as it will not work if placed elsewhere.
A special thank you goes to Lyall for developing and testing this patch. It is worth noting that this patch may be updated in the future, so keep an eye on the releases page for any enhancements.
This specific patch is tailored to eliminate pillarboxing and letterboxing, ensuring that both gameplay and cutscenes are rendered in ultrawide resolution. Given its effectiveness for users, it’s unlikely a separate update will be released specifically for Little Nightmares 3.
Although the vignette effect on the screen edges may be somewhat pronounced in certain scenarios, this does not appear to impact the ultrawide experience negatively. Thus, if you own an ultrawide monitor, applying this patch is currently the optimal way to enjoy Little Nightmares 3, especially considering that developer intervention on this issue seems improbable.
