After years of anticipation, the developers at Raven Software have officially confirmed the return of the original launch map, Verdansk, in Black Ops 6. While specific details have been scarce, we’ve gathered all the relevant information about this highly awaited comeback.
Verdansk was the inaugural map in the immensely popular Call of Duty Battle Royale, quickly capturing the hearts of players everywhere.
In December 2021, 18 months post-launch of Warzone, Verdansk was removed and replaced by Caldera, a map that, despite its launch, failed to capture the nostalgia and excitement associated with its predecessor, leading to an outcry from players for a new map.
Since then, players have persistently requested the chance to revisit their beloved locations and favorite drop zones in Verdansk. Although players could explore Verdansk in Warzone Mobile, the full return of the map in the main game seemed unlikely. However, hope is finally on the horizon.
Does Verdansk have a release date?
As of now, while there is no official release date for Verdansk in Black Ops 6, Activision has confirmed that Verdansk will be reintroduced to Call of Duty in Spring 2025.
Initially, there were rumors suggesting that Black Ops 6 would launch with Verdansk as its primary battle royale map. However, a leak surfaced on June 27, indicating that this iconic map might be released mid-lifecycle instead.

Concerns grew in August when players got a glimpse of the new Warzone map, Area 99. Many speculated that Verdansk might not return at all, especially as Treyarch seemed to be focusing on the development of the new map. However, these concerns were put to rest during CoD NEXT, where Activision officially confirmed Verdansk’s return in the first half of 2025 to commemorate the five-year milestone of Warzone.
For those who enjoy speculating, note that March 10, 2025, marks the five-year anniversary of Warzone, and the closest update day (Wednesday) after that is March 12, 2025, which could potentially be the targeted release date for Verdansk.
Will it be the same as the original Verdansk?
Verdansk is widely regarded as the best map in the Warzone franchise.
At this time, it remains unclear how Verdansk will be presented upon its return in 2025. Throughout its original run, Verdansk saw various tweaks and modifications to enhance gameplay.
For instance, following the integration with Black Ops Cold War, Verdansk ’84 was introduced, featuring an opened Stadium, alterations to certain Downtown locations, and the addition of the Array POI.
It is possible that players will experience a direct replica of one of these versions of Verdansk or perhaps an updated edition that incorporates newer game mechanics, such as Redeploy Drones and enhanced ziplines for traversal across tall buildings.
Notably, Verdansk’s iconic points of interest (POIs) like Hospital, Dam, Prison, and Stadium must be included; however, Raven and Activision have remained heavily secretive regarding the specifics of what players can expect.
We will continue to update this page as more information about the return of Verdansk becomes available. For now, make sure to stay informed about the best weapons in Warzone and prepare for epic battles leading up to the big day.
