For those seeking a more budget-friendly option, a cardboard and foam version will be available for $24.99. Both models are set to launch on February 17, 2026, and will be compatible with both the original Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2.

Accessory Requirement for Play

Nintendo has made it clear that to access the Virtual Boy Classics game lineup, players must have one of the newly announced accessories. These games will be available through the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack service. According to the official product description:

“To play games in the Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics, you will need an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. Either this accessory or the Virtual Boy (Cardboard Model) for Nintendo Switch 2/Nintendo Switch (sold separately) is required to play Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics.”
