Roblox is revolutionizing the creative landscape for its users by providing access to some of the most popular franchises in entertainment. Through a new initiative, creators can now legally utilize intellectual properties (IPs) such as Squid Game, Saw, and Like a Dragon to construct their own gaming experiences.
The recently launched License Manager and Licenses catalog enables developers to build games from officially sanctioned brands. This strategic move eliminates the need for workarounds and the risk of content takedowns, granting users enhanced creative freedom under legitimate licenses. For the first time, Roblox has established a systematic approach for building with prominent entertainment IPs, benefiting creators by ensuring they operate with the approval of rights holders.
Empowering Creators in a New Era

This development signifies a pivotal moment for Roblox and its creator ecosystem. While the platform has always supported fan-made games, creating content based on copyrighted material posed significant challenges. With the introduction of official licensing, creators can now confidently develop games inspired by their favorite series and films, with opportunities for monetization.
Among the notable additions is Sega’s Like a Dragon franchise, which stands out as a flagship IP in this new licensing venture. According to Roblox, the community is encouraged to craft innovative experiences grounded in the series’ narrative and universe through licensed content. Roblox expressed enthusiasm, stating, “Now the Like a Dragon IP is on Roblox for fans to develop worlds based on its rich setting and story, built under official licenses from RGG Studio. Whether they are already a devoted Yakuza fan or have never played before, we hope users around the globe will dive in and enjoy this vibrant new take on the series.”
Additionally, Netflix is broadening its collaboration with Roblox, initiating the licensing with the popular series Stranger Things and Squid Game. These titles are now available for creators to remix, with more franchises expected to join the roster as this program expands.
With this launch, Roblox aims to foster a collaborative future where fans and brands work hand in hand. This initiative not only discourages unauthorized content creation but also allows developers to create authentic games associated with established IPs, paving the way for mutual rewards.
