Rockstar Games has faced a setback with the anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which has now been delayed until November 2026. This delay is projected to incur an additional development cost estimated at $60 million.
Initially confident about a firm release date, Take-Two, Rockstar’s publisher, announced the first postponement of GTA 6, believing that further delays were unlikely. However, a prolonged period without any updates led to a second delay officially announced on November 6. The new target for the game’s release is set for November 19, 2026. In a statement, Rockstar expressed their regret at the necessitated delay, emphasizing that the extended development time is essential to deliver the high standard of quality fans expect.
Financial Implications of the Delay
Insiders reveal that, while Grand Theft Auto 6 is “content complete, ”Rockstar is utilizing these additional six months to meticulously eliminate bugs and enhance the overall gameplay experience. However, this decision comes at a considerable financial cost.
Tom Henderson, a notable industry insider, shared insights regarding the financial impact of the delay. During a recent podcast, he stated, “I got a number from a developer on this, and they think this is going to cost Take-Two $10 million a month extra now. So, we’re talking an extra $60 million.” Henderson elaborated that if salaries and other factors are taken into account, total costs could approach $100 million.
Despite the hefty price tag associated with the delay, the financial ramifications are unlikely to hinder the game’s profitability. The development of GTA 6 is already projected to cost around $2 billion, underscoring the game’s anticipated success.

Henderson was among the first to hint at the possibility of a second delay for GTA 6, noting that an initial May release date seemed implausible given the circumstances.
Additionally, Rockstar has faced criticism following the termination of several developers accused of leaking confidential information. These developers, who were part of a union, have voiced allegations of “union-busting” practices by the company and have organized protests in response. One anonymous developer has even suggested on GTAForums that these firings could further postpone the game’s release.
