FaZe teMpeRRR, one of the founding figures of the renowned esports organization, recently suggested that ropz was looking for a team with greater “firepower.” However, ropz has since refuted that claim, stating there was no internal conflict and that his departure was entirely voluntary.

In a recent exclusive interview, I had the opportunity to speak with ropz to uncover the real motivations behind his decision to part ways with FaZe. Given that FaZe has been a powerhouse in the Counter-Strike scene, and that ropz played a pivotal role in their triumphs, his story is particularly compelling.

Timing of the Departure: ropz’s Strategic Decision

As one of the premier players in the Counter-Strike community, ropz found himself in high demand, with multiple teams eager to secure his talents. Reflecting on the timeline of his departure, he noted, “The decision came as late as possible, basically. After the [Shanghai] major, that’s when the conversation started. I wasn’t certain about my future even six months prior. I wanted to let the year unfold without compromising my dedication and motivation.”

Throughout his tenure at FaZe, ropz grew to be recognized as one of the elite players in CS, even achieving the prestigious Intel Grand Slam milestone.

He further elaborated, “FaZe always wanted me to stay. The affection within the organization is genuine, making the choice quite challenging. It involved many stressful days of contemplation, which I faced even during my brief time at home. Making such a consequential decision that affects my career is undeniably difficult.”

Having been a professional player for almost a decade, ropz boasts an impressive track record, including numerous MVP titles and major tournament victories. Nevertheless, he is eager to embark on a new journey.

“I’ve taken the time to reflect on my career and consider where I envision myself in the next couple of years. Ultimately, this decision was more about my personal growth rather than any issues with FaZe. With my contract approaching its end, it was the perfect moment to choose a new organization that aligns with my aspirations,” he stated.

He emphasized, “There weren’t any hidden conflicts within FaZe. I simply saw it as an opportunity for a fresh challenge at a time when such chances can be rare for players, especially when aiming for long-term projects in esports.”

Embarking on a New Adventure with Team Vitality

During our discussion, I asked ropz about his excitement regarding joining Team Vitality, and it was clear who stood out as the player he was most thrilled to team up with.

“Well, the answer is obvious. It has to be zywo0o. Mathieu is extraordinary. I’ve seen many players work hard, like s1mple and m0nesy, but zywOo’s talent is incomparable. In just a few days with him, I realized he possesses remarkable abilities that I’ve never encountered before,” he exclaimed.

Reflecting on the intensive matches faced against Vitality, ropz shared how that competitive pressure helped influence his decision to join their ranks.

“No longer having to compete against Vitality is a relief. This team is well-equipped to take on the formidable Team Spirit, who I believe are the only contenders right now for the top position given their performance in 2024,” ropz remarked.

“I chose this path because I was in a position to do so. My tenure as a rival to Vitality only deepened my admiration for their strength as a lineup. I’m thrilled to finally be part of this team; I believe we can become the benchmark for excellence in international competition,” he added.

“Pressure is a constant in our field, whether playing for FaZe or now with Vitality. The necessity to win tournaments is always present,” he acknowledged.
