Actor Kiefer Sutherland, widely recognized for his role in the hit series 24, found himself in legal trouble early Monday morning after an alleged incident involving a rideshare driver.
Known for his performances in iconic films from the 1980s such as Stand By Me, The Lost Boys, and Young Guns, Sutherland continued to build his career through the 1990s with works like Flatliners, A Few Good Men, and A Time to Kill. The 2000s marked a transition for him into television with remarkable success in 24, which is currently set to be adapted into a film. More recently, he has been starring in the Netflix thriller Designated Survivor.
However, this week, the celebrated actor has drawn media attention for an off-screen incident that is expected to see him in court next month.

Sutherland, now 59, was taken into custody during the early hours of January 12 following a confrontation with a rideshare driver in Hollywood. According to a report from Deadline, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded to emergency calls regarding an assault near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue shortly after midnight.
Reports indicated that Sutherland, who was subsequently identified as the suspect, entered the rideshare vehicle and allegedly assaulted the driver. The LAPD also stated that he made criminal threats, as noted in a report from the BBC. Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries during the alleged encounter.
Following the incident, Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of making “felony criminal threats.” He was later released on a $50, 000 bond, with a court appearance scheduled for February 2, 2026.
In his recent work, Sutherland starred in the holiday-themed movie Tinsel Town, while he is currently engaged in filming the crime thriller Father Joe alongside Al Pacino and will soon be seen in the action film Sierra Madre.
