Rumor Claims Ubisoft to Double Down on MTX in Assassin’s Creed Infinity

According to a reliable source, the Assassin’s Creed Infinity platform is expected to prioritize a subscription model that includes microtransactions.

In 2021, Ubisoft announced their new project codenamed Assassin’s Creed Infinity and shared initial details. This cross-studio endeavor, led by series creator Ubisoft Montréal and in collaboration with Ubisoft Québec, aims to create a platform filled with diverse adventures.

Despite the continuous flow of leaks and rumors, Ubisoft has chosen to stay quiet about the details. This includes a report from Insider Gaming, which claims that the already revealed AC Codename Hexe will be available on the platform.

According to credible Assassin’s Creed insider j0nathan, the latest Infinity speculation suggests that the company intends to run it as a monthly subscription-based model.

The leaker claims that the service will provide access to “older AC games,”upcoming downloadable content, and a new item/skin every month. It is unclear if this will also include newer Assassin’s Creed games, as the leaker did not have information on those plans. However, it is alleged that the service will heavily rely on microtransactions for its content offerings.

Despite the lack of a way to verify the accuracy of the information, Ubisoft’s willingness to incorporate monetization in their major releases has been demonstrated through the microtransaction controversy surrounding both Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (2018) and AC Valhalla (2020).

Following Odyssey’s release, players accused Ubisoft of deliberately designing a tiresome grind that incentivized them to purchase boosters. The publisher faced criticism for Valhalla’s expensive in-game transactions as well.
