If you found yourself wanting more after finishing Monsters Season 2, there’s some exciting news! Ryan Murphy is considering creating additional episodes focused on the Menendez brothers—but there’s a key stipulation that must be met.
Recently, a new true crime documentary about Lyle and Erik Menendez has been released, but it was Monsters Season 2 that initially brought attention to their story.
The miniseries from Ryan Murphy has placed the infamous siblings back in the limelight, courtesy of Netflix.
Despite the fact that the real-life Menendez brothers have criticized Murphy’s portrayal—Erik has publicly expressed his discontent—the new show has garnered a variety of responses from viewers.
About a month after the series premiered, Murphy revealed his willingness to produce further episodes, but only if Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch return to their roles.
He mentioned to Variety, “If Nicholas [Alexander Chavez] and Cooper [Koch] are on board, I would be keen to explore one or two episodes to continue their narrative.”
For those unfamiliar with the case, Lyle and Erik were convicted of first-degree murder after taking the lives of their parents, Jose and Kitty, back in 1989. Allegations suggest that longstanding sexual abuse from Jose was a critical factor in their actions, with Kitty reportedly being aware of the situation.
While the fate of further episodes of Monsters Season 2 remains uncertain, there have been important real-life developments surrounding the case. Following the renewed interest from the successful series, Lyle and Erik Menendez are scheduled for a new court hearing on November 29.
This hearing could lead to a retrial or resentencing, although the outcome remains unpredictable. Kim Kardashian has emerged as a prominent voice advocating for the release of the brothers.
Regarding Murphy, he clarified his stance, stating he doesn’t see himself as an “advocate” in this situation. “I believe in justice, but I’m not part of that mechanism,” he shared with Variety. “My role as an artist was to present a narrative in this particular story. I feel that I have accomplished that, and I wish them well.”
Additionally, Monsters Season 3 is on the horizon, featuring Charlie Hunnam as the infamous killer Ed Gein.
Both Monsters Season 2 and the story of the Menendez Brothers can be streamed on Netflix. Explore how the Menendez siblings were apprehended, Lyle’s startling statements regarding Dr. Jerome Oziel, and the current whereabouts of Oziel.
