Ryan Reynolds attributed the reworking of a musical scene in Deadpool & Wolverine to one of the most renowned pop stars.
The upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to have numerous exciting cameos and Easter eggs, as well as a musical sequence.
Including unforgettable needle-drop moments is not a new occurrence in the Deadpool movies, as the first two installments have also featured them.
Despite this, one of the musical scenes featuring Deadpool and Wolverine was assisted by the singer behind the popular licensed song. During an interview with SiriusXM, star Ryan Reynolds disclosed that Madonna provided a suggestion on how her song should be incorporated into the film.
Reynolds clarified that Madonna did not simply license the song, specifically her 1989 single ‘Like a Prayer,’ and that it had not been licensed at all. He emphasized that it was a significant request to make and an even bigger deal to actually use it in the project. The team had a meeting with Madonna to showcase how the song was being used and explained the reasoning behind it.
He went on, stating, “She provided excellent feedback. I swear, she paid close attention and was insistent on, ‘You must do this, this, and this at this specific point.’ And let me tell you, she was absolutely correct.”
During the interview, director Shawn Levy openly discussed the production and promptly incorporated Madonna’s valuable criticism. He explained, “We immediately went into a new recording session within 48 hours to address this one note. It was a fantastic note that greatly enhanced the sequence.”
Levy expressed that the experience of meeting Madonna was akin to meeting royalty, and Reynolds described it as one of the most thrilling moments of his life.
In addition to Deadpool and Wolverine, Madonna has granted permission for ‘Like A Prayer’ to be used in four other productions: Gummo (1997), Never Been Kissed (1999), Derry Girls (2018), and The Idol (2023).
This marks the debut of Madonna’s music in a Marvel movie, yet the Deadpool franchise has a well-established tradition of incorporating classic tunes, such as Salt-N-Pepa’s ‘Shoop’ in the initial Deadpool and Cher’s ‘If I Could Turn Back Time’ in the sequel.
Audiences will be able to discover the scene in which Madonna’s popular song is included once Deadpool & Wolverine is released in theaters on July 26.
