The production of Avengers: Doomsday is currently underway, and speculation among fans has intensified following a recent social media post from Ryan Reynolds, suggesting a potential cameo from Deadpool.
It has been a challenging journey for the beloved “Merc with a Mouth”to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Five years post-Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox—and after a playful promotional video featuring Korg in 2021—Deadpool finally made his grand entrance in the highly anticipated Deadpool and Wolverine, released in 2024.
This film achieved remarkable success, shattering records for R-rated movies and becoming one of the top-grossing films of all time. Yet, the pressing question looms: what lies ahead for Deadpool?
With rumors circulating about Reynolds possibly developing a Deadpool/X-Men crossover film, there is speculation that he might also appear in Doomsday.
Ryan Reynolds Drops Deadpool Hint for Avengers: Doomsday
In a recent Instagram post, Ryan Reynolds shared an image of the Avengers logo with a bold red “A” spray-painted over it. Although there was no accompanying caption, he also posted a photo on his Instagram story, leading fans to believe he might be on the set of Doomsday.

The significance of the “A” remains open to interpretation. It could simply reflect Deadpool’s graffiti style or hint at an anarchist incarnation of the Avengers from Earth-138 in the comics. Alternatively, it may reference Cassandra Nova’s flag in Deadpool and Wolverine. Whether this teaser pertains to Doomsday or an entirely different project is still uncertain.
In previous discussions, Reynolds has remained guarded about any potential Avengers role. He remarked to The Hollywood Reporter in late 2024, “There are no updates to share just yet. But I trust Kevin and [Marvel executive] Lou D’Esposito with my life.”

Reynolds has articulated a deep fondness for Deadpool’s character, particularly his fanboy nature. He expressed, “His enthusiasm and longing to be part of a team is really endearing to me. It’s his overarching wish-fulfillment story. But I don’t think he should ever be an Avenger or an X-Man. If he becomes either, we’re at the end.”
While Reynolds doesn’t dismiss the idea of Deadpool appearing alongside the Avengers, he emphasizes that “he always needs to stay an outsider.” He elaborated, stating, “His ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he can’t be accepted. His coping mechanism of deflecting shame through humor works only when used to pave over his many inadequacies. If and when he does become an Avenger or X-Man, we’re at the end of his journey.”
That was the last major update on Deadpool’s future in the MCU before a whirlwind of developments occurred. With films like Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and even Fantastic Four underperforming, all eyes are on Avengers: Doomsday to elevate Marvel’s cinematic credibility. Could Marvel be leveraging Deadpool to enhance audience interest in the film?
As it stands, Doomsday boasts a considerable cast, including Reynolds’ past co-stars from Fox, like Patrick Stewart (Professor X), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Ian McKellen (Magneto). This raises another intriguing question: could Deadpool join them just for the ride?
Alternatively, what if the X-Men meet their end in Avengers: Doomsday?
