Durability expert JerryRigEverything recently subjected the latest innovation from Samsung, the Galaxy Z Trifold, to his rigorous stress tests. This device, which boasts an impressive triple-folding design equipped with two hinges and a 10-inch internal display, represents one of Samsung’s most ambitious attempts in foldable technology.
However, the testing revealed serious concerns regarding the device’s durability, making it the first Samsung smartphone to fail under JerryRigEverything’s customary bend test. During the evaluation, the Galaxy Z Trifold exhibited signs of fragility almost instantaneously, with various warnings flashing on the screen before the user even navigated through the main Android interface.
These precautionary messages cautioned against excessive pressure on the screen, highlighted its limited dust resistance, and advised users on the proper folding technique to minimize potential damage.
Highlighting Durability Failures
The Galaxy Z Trifold holds an IP48 rating, which indicates limited dust resistance and some short-term water protection. Nonetheless, during the dust resistance test, fine particles infiltrated the hinge mechanism quickly, causing noticeable grinding sounds and an accumulation of debris around the internal magnets.
This vulnerability became glaringly evident during the bend test. When subjected to pressure in an incorrect direction, the ultra-thin aluminum frame buckled, resulting in permanent deformation and exposing internal components. This failure is particularly significant, as it marks the first instance of a Samsung device breaking during a JerryRigEverything durability test.

While the hinges remained intact, the structural integrity of the device was compromised, with the frame splitting along the antenna lines. This lack of resilience was attributed to the device’s thickness of merely 3.9 mm at its thinnest point. The testing concluded with the Galaxy Z Trifold proving to be far less durable than expected, effectively ending the session prematurely.
This incident underscores a troubling trend in foldable technology; while the Galaxy Z Trifold faced its first failure, it follows in the footsteps of the Pixel 10 Fold, which JerryRigEverything previously tested and which spectacularly exploded under pressure during its own assessment in October.
