PEAK is an innovative physics-based roguelike game set in a perilous climbing survival environment located on a procedurally generated island featuring five menacing biomes. In this adventure, you and your three fellow scouts face the challenge of conquering a treacherous mountain, where battling the elements and managing hunger can be as perilous as navigating the hazardous terrain.
This comprehensive guide is designed to equip you with the knowledge to thrive during your initial expedition, whether you choose to venture forth alone or in a team with friends striving towards the mountain’s summit.
1. A Beginner’s Guide to PEAK – Solo and Multiplayer
In the engaging world of PEAK, the primary mission is to ascend to the peak by any means necessary, either solo or alongside three other adept scouts. Success in this exhilarating landscape demands strategic planning and an understanding of the critical survival elements facing your character.
It’s time to gather your gear and embark on this thrilling climb!
i. Basic Survival: Master the Climb

Stamina Management
Your stamina is a vital resource in PEAK, influenced by conditions such as weather, hunger, carried weight, and overall health. As you ascend, your stamina depletes, but you can recover by resting on flat surfaces, consuming cooked food, or utilizing energy drinks. Managing your inventory wisely is essential to avoid excessive weight that slows recovery.
Additionally, a secondary stamina bar can be activated through energy drinks and certain foods, kicking in automatically when your primary bar runs low.
Strategic Climbing
Approach your climb as a strategic puzzle—taking lateral or downward routes can be more efficient and conserve stamina. Always assess the terrain for potential hazards before proceeding, and ensure you have a reliable escape route before committing to any ascent.
Utilize natural formations such as ledges and vines for rest stops and recovery.
Climbing Techniques
- Lunge Climb: Sprint while climbing to leap further (this consumes stamina).
- Momentum Grab: Jump onto ropes or chains from a height to build momentum and speed.
- Fallback Roping: Establish ropes as potential escape routes, not just for climbing.
- Double Anchor Pathing: Create custom trails by combining ropes and chains for safe zones.

Rope & Chain Tools
- Rope Launcher: Fires a short horizontal/diagonal rope.
- Chain Launcher: Launches a long horizontal/diagonal chain.
- Basic Rope: Facilitates climbing points for teammates or escape paths.
- Anti-Rope: Functions opposite to a basic rope, aiding in short upward climbs.
Note: Utilize momentum by jumping onto ropes/chains to conserve stamina.
Environmental Hazards by Biome
Each biome presents its unique set of environmental challenges, necessitating tailored strategies:
| Biome | Hazard | Strategies |
| Shores | Poisonous plants and urchins | Harvest coconuts early and distinguish between harmful and beneficial shrooms. |
| Tropics | Slippery rain | Seek shelter during rainstorms; avoid poisonous flora and volatile bushes. |
| Alpine | Freezing winds and frost debuffs | Utilize heat packs and take shelter in rock crevices. |
| Caldera | Fluctuating lava levels | Stay at elevated positions and utilize chains to navigate over gaps. |
| Kiln | Lava and fiery rocks | Monitor your steps and stamina closely while optimizing tool use. |
Be aware that some hazards may seem perilous but can be navigated with careful observation.
Resource and Inventory Management
Efficient inventory management is crucial. A backpack increases your carrying capacity by four slots but also adds weight, affecting stamina regeneration. In cooperative mode, share the burden with team members to conserve stamina.
In solo play, prioritizing essential items is critical. Below are recommended essentials to carry:

- 2–3 cooked food items
- 1 rope tool (choose between basic rope, anti-rope, rope launcher, or chain)
- 1 healing item (Bandage or Medkit)
- 1 stamina item (Energy drink, Sports Drink, or Lollipop)
Food Strategies for Survival
Always cook your food and drinks, as this significantly enhances stamina recovery. Use campfires or portable stoves for food preparation. Be careful not to accidentally cook tools or equipment, as they will be permanently lost.
Top Early Foods:
- Coconuts can be harvested from palm trees and processed for two servings.
- Trail mix, cooked berries, and honeycomb offer outstanding stamina benefits.
Identifying Potential Poisons:
| Type of Food | Edibility |
| Red Berries | Safe |
| Yellow Berries | Safe |
| Purple Berries | Safe |
| Green Berries | Poisonous |
| Funky Mushrooms | Poisonous |
Test unfamiliar food items on flat ground before consumption, and always carry antidotes as a precaution.
ii. Tips for Playing Co-Op

Collaborative Efforts
- Assist teammates by right-clicking near them to help pull them up when they’re struggling at a ledge. This not only conserves their stamina but also aids those who are injured.
Crouch Boost Methods
- Utilize the crouch boost technique: when one player crouches and another jumps on them, it creates a trampoline effect that can clear small gaps.
Communication Techniques
- Utilize the middle-click to ping valuable resources, hazardous areas, or navigational paths.
- Coordinate actions through proximity voice chat for healing, boosts, or item exchanges.
- Assign roles to ensure efficiency (e.g., Healer, Scout, Carrier).
Understanding Death & Revival
| Situation | Necessary Tool | Important Notes |
| Unconscious Teammate | Medkit or Antidote | Use these items to recover from exhaustion or poison. |
| Deceased Teammate | Scout Effigy | A rare single-use revival item found within Ancient Luggage or exceptional chests. |
| Reviving Teammates | Ancient Statue | This is located at the completion points of most biomes (excluding Kiln). |
Note: If no teammates are deceased, the Ancient Statue will yield a Mythical Item instead.
iii. Tips for Playing Solo

Engaging in solo play within PEAK presents a thrilling yet perilous survival challenge. Without the help of teammates for revivals or support, each choice carries significant weight.
- Exercise patience; rushing can lead to dire consequences unless you are compelled to move quickly due to fog.
- Frequent resting is essential, and avoid jumps that lack certainty.
- Always scout your fallback paths before engaging in vertical ascent.
- Leverage Tenderfoot Mode to familiarize yourself with biomes without fog interference.
- Avoid eating during climbs unless absolutely necessary.
- Anticipating survival is critical—as revivals are non-existent unless you possess an Effigy, the utmost caution is required.
- Steer clear of suspicious containers when your health is compromised, as they may house traps.
- Valuing survival over loot is paramount, particularly in regions with dense fog or hidden threats.
