Season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Officially Confirmed for Production

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2 has officially been green-lit for production. This exciting news was revealed during the anime’s first anniversary event at TOHO Cinemas in Tokyo on Saturday, September 29, 2024. The staff also shared an announcement visual and a promotional video (PV) to confirm the production.

The anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End adapts the acclaimed Japanese fantasy manga series created by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. The manga is serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine and has released a total of 134 chapters to date. The adaptation for season 1 was handled by Madhouse studio.

Announcement of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 Production with Teaser Visual and PV

On September 28, 2024, the official website and their X (formerly Twitter) account for the series unveiled a teaser visual and an announcement PV confirming the production of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2. Madhouse studios will continue their involvement for the sequel’s production, although a release date has yet to be disclosed.

The teaser visual for season 2 features iconic items like Frieren’s bag, Stark’s axe, and Fern’s staff, along with the silhouettes of the trio. This illustration poignantly suggests that Frieren’s adventure is just beginning and that the characters are simply taking a moment to recharge before continuing their journey.

The announcement PV features the same visual in motion, with Frieren (voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki) asking, “Shall we continue our journey?”. This nostalgia-inducing statement echoes the final episode of season 1, which ended with the message, “Journey to Ende continues.” The accompanying video also includes a familiar original soundtrack (OST) from the first season.

Additionally, the official staff shared a congratulatory illustration along with a message from Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe. The illustration showcases characters like Frieren, Himmel, Heiter, and Eisen, members of the Hero Party.

The collaborative message from Yamada and Abe, when translated from Japanese, states:

“The second season of the TV anime has been decided to be produced! We owe it all to everyone who has supported us. We are eternally grateful to everyone involved in the anime who has created this wonderful series. As a viewer, I look forward to Frieren’s journey as she sets off again…”

The first season premiered on September 29, 2024, with a special 2-hour episode on Nippon Television’s Friday Anime Night slot. In total, season 1 comprised 28 episodes aired across two cours. Fans could watch the anime as it aired in Japan on Crunchyroll.

What to Expect in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2?

The previous season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End adapted material up to chapter 60 of the manga series by Yamada and Abe. Thus, season 2 is set to commence the adaptation from chapter 61, following Frieren, her mage apprentice Fern (now a First-Class Mage), and Stark the Warrior as they resume their journey to Ende.

Essentially, the sequel will pick up from the Continued Northern Travels Arc and delve into The Golden Land Arc.
