Speculation has been rife about the participation of wrestler Seth Rollins in the upcoming film, Captain America: Brave New World. We’re here to separate the truth from the myths surrounding this entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Since the 1980s, when Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper transitioned from the wrestling ring to the big screen, numerous wrestlers have ventured into film, particularly in superhero genres.
For instance, Dave Bautista transformed into Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, and John Cena took on the role of Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad. Additionally, Dwayne Johnson starred as the titular character in Black Adam.
Now, it appears Seth Rollins is gearing up for a similar transition, potentially portraying an antagonist in Captain America: Brave New World. Here’s what we know so far…
Is Seth Rollins Cast in Captain America: Brave New World?
Indeed, Seth Rollins has been officially cast in Captain America: Brave New World, and he filmed scenes for the superhero film; however, latest reports indicate that his footage may have been removed.
No formal announcement has yet been made about his role in the sequel. However, unofficial behind-the-scenes video surfaced in May 2023, showcasing Rollins in costume while the film was still known as Captain America: New World Order.
In an interview in October 2023, Rollins shared with Last Meals: “It was an excellent experience, and I believe it will be quite impressive. The WWE audience will embrace it, as will the other viewers, making it an exciting opportunity for me to explore new avenues.”
By January 2024, rumors emerged suggesting that Rollins’ character was being omitted from the film as part of efforts to reshape the sequel.
Subsequently, in May 2024, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Captain America 4 was undergoing a series of reshoots in Atlanta, slated to span 22 days.
New action sequences were incorporated during these reshoots, and Giancarlo Esposito joined the cast in a role that was, at the time, not officially revealed. His character could potentially be linked to Rollins’…
What Role Was Seth Rollins Expected to Play in Captain America 4?
It was speculated that Seth Rollins was set to portray King Cobra in Captain America: Brave New World, based on some leaked video from the film’s set.
King Cobra, first introduced in ‘Journey Into Mystery #98’ in 1963, was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Don Heck. Originally a lab technician named Klaus Voorhees, he sought a cure for venomous snake bites.
However, after a mix of experimental venom and a radioactive cobra’s bite, he gained super abilities, transforming him into a villain.
King Cobra is notably associated with the Serpent Squad, raising questions about his role if Rollins is removed from the movie—particularly following a puzzling announcement made at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

During the convention, Giancarlo Esposito announced his role as Seth Voelker, also known as Sidewinder, who leads the Serpent Society.
This raises the question: is Rollins still featured in Captain America: Brave New World as part of this team, or is Sidewinder taking over King Cobra’s role? Until Marvel provides official confirmation, all we can do is hypothesize.
Who Exactly is Seth Rollins?
Seth Rollins is a highly acclaimed professional wrestler who began his career in Ring of Honor before making his way to WWE in 2010, where he became a five-time world champion.
Born Colby Daniel Lopez in Davenport, Iowa, in 1986, he trained at a wrestling academy led by Danny Daniels before establishing himself in Iowa’s independent wrestling circuit under the ring name Gixx.
Later, as Tyler Black, he traveled across promotions, competing in the Independent Wrestling Association Mid-South, NMA Midwest, and briefly with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.
From 2007 to 2010, he was a prominent figure in Ring of Honor, where he achieved world champion status and successfully defended his title seven times.
However, WWE approached him next, where under the name Seth Rollins, he achieved remarkable success, securing the WWE Championship twice, the Universal Championship twice, and the World Heavyweight Championship once.
His accolades include a total of 16 WWE championships, multiple wrestler-of-the-year honors, and establishing the record for the longest televised match in WWE history.
Outside the ring, Rollins and fellow wrestler Becky Lynch started dating in 2019, welcoming their daughter Roux in December 2020, and tying the knot in June 2021.
Though he has ventured into acting, including his debut in Sharknado: The 4th Awakens and lending his voice to The Jetsons & WWE: Robo-WrestleMania! and the animated film Trouble, his cameo appearances in Armed Response (2017) and Like a Boss (2020) were minor compared to what Captain America 4 promises to be for his acting career.
Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled to premiere on February 14, 2025. Meanwhile, it’s set to address significant gaps in the MCU narrative.
