Shigaraki’s End Leaves Fans of My Hero Academia Conflicted, and Rightfully So

The Final War arc in the My Hero Academia manga, which has spanned 80 chapters, concluded this week with the release of chapter 423. This also marked the end of All For One and Tomura Shigaraki’s journeys as they joined forces with Deku to defeat the Demon Lord.

Despite the epic nature of Shigaraki’s sendoff, his ending left many fans feeling conflicted. Some fans argued that his death in My Hero Academia chapter 423 was too rushed and that he deserved more than just two and a half pages for a proper conclusion.

Why Readers Weren’t Satisfied with Tomura Shigaraki’s Fate in My Hero Academia Chapter 423

After countless battles and the support of his friends and the entire Hero society, Deku’s ultimate victory over All For One in chapter 423 of the My Hero Academia manga was a long-awaited and highly gratifying conclusion. The defeat of the Demon Lord would not have been possible without the collaboration of both Heroes and Villains, including Kurogiri and Tomura Shigaraki.

The panel depicting Deku standing tall as Shigaraki’s body crumbles to dust in the bright sunlight on the battlefield is undoubtedly one of the most iconic moments in the My Hero Academia manga. However, the ending of Tomura Shigaraki in the latest chapter left fans feeling conflicted.

Despite half of the My Hero Academia fandom being generally satisfied with Shigaraki’s conclusion, the other half felt that it was somewhat rushed. They noted that the character’s departure was depicted in only two and a half pages.

Despite the series building towards Shigaraki’s eventual redemption with Deku’s assistance, fans had anticipated a longer farewell for his character.

Despite some criticism of the ending, chapter 423 effectively concluded both the final battle of the series and the individual story arcs of All For One and Tomura Shigaraki. This led to speculation that Horikoshi may have hurried the conclusion of Shigaraki’s story, as not many voiced complaints about All For One’s resolution.

Reactions to Shigaraki’s Defeat

In the final pages of My Hero Academia chapter 423, Tomura Shigaraki engaged in a short but poignant dialogue with Deku. During their conversation, he disclosed that his grandmother, Nana Shimura, had saved him from vanishing completely. Shigaraki also entrusted Deku with a message for Spinner, asking him to convey that he had fought until the very end in his quest for destruction.

Despite this, there were still many who felt that Shigaraki’s sendoff was not long enough. They believed that it should have spanned at least an entire chapter in order to properly honor his character.

“I feel like Shiggy needed at least a whole chapter. Maybe we’ll get more next chapter,”one fan wrote.

“Afo got a more heartfelt and less rushed conclusion than tomura…”said another.

“Is it just me or is anyone else kinda just not satisfied?”one fan asked.

Many individuals appeared to be in agreement that Shigaraki’s conclusion required further time, while others expressed satisfaction with the content provided in the chapter.

“Really feel like he needed one whole chapter for him to go properly, most of this chapter was the end of afo, shigaraki felt super rushed,”one fan claimed.

“I think it was done well personally but I can see the frustration,”another chimed in.

“I mean to be fair; no one said Shiggy needed to survive after the war. He caused too much destruction. Deku achieved his goal of freeing the crying boy,”said another.
