The highly anticipated K-drama “Cinderella at 2 AM”, starring popular actors Shin Hyun-been, Moon Sang-min, Yoon Park, and Park So-jin, made its debut on August 24 with a rating of 0.6%. However, the viewership has slightly decreased to 0.5% in the following weeks.
Despite receiving mixed reviews from viewers, the K-drama has garnered attention thanks to the chemistry between the main leads.
“The plot of “Cinderella at 2 AM”revolves around the forbidden love between Ha Yoon-seo (portrayed by Shin Hyun-been), a modern-day Cinderella, and Seo Joo-won (portrayed by Moon Sang-min), the youngest son of a wealthy family who conceals his identity. However, their secret office romance is threatened when Seo Joo-won’s mother discovers their relationship and tries to end it by offering Ha Yoon-seo money. In a desperate situation, Ha Yoon-seo takes the money and ends things with Seo Joo-won.”
Shin Hyun-been portrays the character of Ha Yoon-seo in the drama, a self-assured and determined woman who holds a leadership position at a large company and is highly respected by her colleagues. Due to experiencing domestic abuse as a child, Yoon-seo fled with her younger brother and faced numerous challenges while growing up. This shaped her into a practical individual who values her professional growth above everything else. Moon Sang-min takes on the role of Seo Joo-won, Yoon-seo’s younger boyfriend who works under her at the conglomerate where she is employed, but is also the chairman’s son.
Despite the efforts put into “Cinderella at 2 AM,”the drama has received negative feedback mainly due to Shin Hyun-been’s acting abilities. The lack of chemistry between her and co-star Moon Sang-min, who have a 14-year age gap, has been a major factor in the awkward and unnatural scenes viewers have noticed. Many have also commented on Shin Hyun-been appearing significantly older than the youthful Moon Sang-min, further affecting their on-screen chemistry.
Displayed below are a few responses from internet users:
- The 14-year age gap is too significant. The casting should either feature a younger female lead or an older male lead. This particular pairing is not effective.
- Despite initially defending her (Shin Hyun-been) lackluster expressions in “Hospital Playlist” as fitting for her character’s motif, my opinion has changed after watching “Monstrous” and “Reborn Rich” . It is evident that she struggles to create chemistry with the male lead, as her tired and dull expressions remain consistent.
- Her chemistry with her co-star in “Hospital Playlist” was already disappointing, and now after watching some cuts of this new drama, I don’t even want to watch it.
- She struggles to interact with any co-star she is paired with.
- I like Sang-min, but seeing the female lead makes me lose interest, so I ended up dropping this drama.”
Additionally, Channel A broadcasts the K-drama “Cinderella at 2 AM” every weekend on Saturdays and Sundays.
