Prominent streamer Shroud has expressed serious concerns regarding Embark Studios’ handling of the cheating epidemic plaguing their popular title, Arc Raiders. He openly questioned the developers’ commitment to resolving the cheating issues that have marred the experience for many players.
Since its release on October 30, 2025, Arc Raiders has captivated gamers, achieving record-breaking milestones with over 700, 000 concurrent players and sales exceeding 14 million copies. This remarkable success marks it as a major player in the extraction shooter genre.
Unfortunately, this popularity has attracted a wave of cheaters, utilizing methods such as wall-hacking and aimbotting, which severely disrupt the gameplay experience for others. Shroud, known for his strong advocacy for fair gaming, has voiced his dissatisfaction, particularly after encountering numerous hackers in his matches.
Shroud Critiques Embark Studios on Cheating Standards
During a recent game session, Shroud voiced his suspicions about unfair play when a cheater eliminated him almost instantaneously, then directed offensive language towards him.“This game has the worst anticheat I’ve ever seen, ” a teammate lamented, to which Shroud responded in alignment, “God, this game is so sh*t. I’m convinced Embark actually doesn’t care.”
Shroud humorously suggested that the cheating player might be affiliated with the development team at Embark Studios, highlighting his frustration but maintaining a light-hearted tone. As his teammates recounted experiencing similar frustrations throughout the day, Shroud dismissed their hopes for imminent improvements, referring to them as “cope” and asserting that “they’re literally cooking nothing.”
Initially, players exploited loopholes in the anti-cheat system, enabling them to evade bans by shifting to alternate accounts. This issue persisted until the developers implemented necessary fixes on February 6, 2026. The current system now includes a three-strike policy: offenders face escalating bans of 30 days, 60 days, or a permanent ban for repeated violations.
This stands in contrast to competitors in the genre, such as Bungie’s Marathon, which recently announced a more stringent one-strike policy that guarantees immediate permanent bans for identified cheaters.
In response to the escalating cheating crisis, Embark Studios issued an update on February 24, outlining new measures to combat unfair gameplay. The post noted, “We’ve recently taken action against different exploits and are tightening our rules and enforcement.”
The studio further emphasized that “serious infractions now carry stricter consequences.” Cheating will now lead to permanent bans without leniency while lesser violations may result in temporary suspensions coupled with an opportunity for correction.
Embark also affirmed its commitment to maintaining a fair gaming environment, stating that their dedicated anti-cheat team is tirelessly working to address these challenges.“It’s an ongoing fight, and we’re committed to it, ” they promised.
