“Skin-crawling” Spider Horror Movie with 95% Rotten Tomatoes Score Now Streaming

Brace yourselves, arachnophobes: a highly acclaimed horror movie centered on spiders has just been released on streaming, said to be one of the most terrifying films of 2024.

Spiders are one of the most common phobias in the world, and it’s not hard to see why. These creepy crawlies can evoke a strong fear response, despite the fact that they eat other bugs. No matter how many times you hear the argument that they play a helpful role in the ecosystem, there’s no denying that a fear of spiders is shared by millions of people (myself included).

In 1990, it was Arachnophobia (remember the infamous shower scene!). In 2002, it was Eight Legged Freaks. And now, Shudder has released their latest offering to haunt your dreams: Infested.

The horror movie, directed by Sébastien Vaniček, was officially released in 2023. It centers around Kaleb (Théo Christine), a man on the brink of turning 30 who is struggling with loneliness, a contentious relationship with his sister over their inheritance, and a recent falling out with his best friend.

Kaleb commits a grave error when he brings an exotic spider into his apartment one day. It doesn’t take long for the entire building to turn into a massive spider nest, and Kaleb and his companions must find an escape route before they become the spiders’ prey.

Since its arrival on Shudder, it has garnered praise from online reviewers and currently holds a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

“According to Bloody Disgusting’s John Squires, “Infested (Shudder) is one of the best movies in the spider horror subgenre, with a skin-crawling intensity that rivals that of the Alien franchise’s Facehuggers. The film’s success can be attributed to our investment in the human characters, even as they are overrun by spiders in their apartment building.”Squires shared his thoughts on Twitter, praising the film’s effectiveness.

Upon its release on Shudder, Infested continues to be a terrifying eight-legged nightmare. This spider horror film rivals the likes of Arachnophobia in terms of inducing skin-crawling fear. Matt Konopka shared on Twitter that it is definitely worth checking out.

IGN’s Katie Rife also wrote that Infested is the type of film that leaves viewers feeling the need to shake out their pant leg afterwards, as they want to make sure there are no hidden critters. This, at its core, is what makes Infested a successful movie.
