The trailer for Smile 2 has been released and it maintains the expected sinister tone, while also confirming the reappearance of a major character from the original film.
Despite only having a budget of $17 million, Parker Finn’s horror movie released in 2022 became a major success, grossing $217.4 million and effectively scaring audiences with its straightforward concept.
Finn is set to direct the sequel, Smile 2, in which pop sensation Quinn Parsons, portrayed by Naomi Scott, falls victim to the infamous smile curse once again.
The main spotlight in the recently debuted trailer, released by Paramount Pictures on June 18, can be seen below:
In the video, Scott’s vocalist can be seen on stage before pausing to relax behind the scenes. Suddenly, Lukas Gage’s character bursts in, yelling at an unknown danger to stay away from him.
Based on the events of the first movie, the outcome of the next events is evident. A malevolent grin spreads across the man’s face as he ends his life by lifting a barbell weight, passing on the curse to Parsons.
As expected, the subsequent clips display her being pursued by the grinning figure while she gradually descends into madness. However, there is another revelation in the trailer for Smile 2: the appearance of Kyle Gallner’s character, Joel.
At the beginning of the film, Joel was the police officer who assisted Rose (Sosie Bacon) after she became a victim of the curse. As the movie came to a close, he watched as she took her own life, making him the next target.
Despite confirmation of Joel’s return for Smile 2, it remains uncertain whether he will be able to break the curse. However, the trailer suggests that his journey will not be without challenges.
In a brief moment that could easily be missed, the trailer for the new movie depicts him injured, fleeing from a house and running into a car that is approaching.
The trailer has ignited excitement among horror fans, as evidenced by one comment on YouTube that reads, “I can’t wait to discover the identity of the smile demon. I have a feeling it might be named Agares.”
“Was that Joel?”inquired one person, and another responded, “Yes, I believe that is the opening scene of the sequel, immediately following the conclusion of the first film.”
“Another person added, “This horror movie franchise has been the most creatively unique since Insidious, with its fresh ideas. It would be great if we could learn more about the demons’ true purpose, name, and nature.”
“The release date for Smile 2 in theaters is set for October 18, 2024.”
